Three jailed for dealing with Jewish state
A
three-man gang attempting to sell information to Israel on the whereabouts
of missing Israeli aviator Ron Arad has been arrested by the authorities
on charges of spying for the Jewish state.
The gang was apparently unable to unearth genuine information and made it up
instead. But the Israelis were apparently unconvinced and only paid a few
hundred dollars for the information.
Arads fighter-bomber was downed over south Lebanon in 1986.
The three gang members were identified as Maroun Youssef Hajj, George Jean Hajj,
and Abdullah Khaled Masri. They were tried by the military tribunal and
convicted of establishing contacts with Israel, entering the Jewish state
and relaying information to Israel. They were sentenced to 18-months in
prison each.
