A military court has sentenced two
people in absentia to 15 years in prison for contact and collaboration with
Israel during its occupation.
The court also ordered the two men, Naji Mahmoud Honein and Hussein Ali Abbas,
to pay a fine of LL2 million each.
The sentences were issued late Monday and posted on the courts bulletin board
Tuesday.
The court also sentenced Hatem Ratib Attieh to a two-year jail term and ordered
him to pay a fine of LL400,000. A fourth man, Fouad Tanios Abou, was sentenced
to a one-year jail term. Charges were dropped against four other men.
The defendants were the 121st batch of collaborators tried by the court since it
began its work last June in the wake of Israels May 2000 withdrawal
from south Lebanon. Its verdicts cannot be appealed.
