Collaborators
want to battle intifada
Former Israeli-allied South
Lebanon Army militiamen who fled to Israel hope to make a living
combatting the intifada in the Occupied Territories, according to reports from
Israel.
Israeli Deputy Minister Yuri Stern, who is responsible for the absorption
of SLA refugees and their families, has promised to work toward securing the
ex-militiamen places in the Jewish states police force or in its Border
Police, Israels Yediot Aharonot newspaper reported on Monday.
In a recent meeting with members of the SLA community in Netanya, Stern
requested a preliminary list of those wanting to serve in the Border Police.
The deputy minister was attentive, said Saad Issa, who is responsible for
the education of SLA children. We have 400 candidates for the Border
Police.
One former SLA militiaman, Robert Fares, 26, explained: I want to go anywhere
theres a war on. I have no problem clashing with the Arabs
.Quite the
opposite, its what I want to do.
