September Monday 20 -1999:
"Israeli" Army told 'prepare to withdraw'
(1)
"Mofaz said he did not believe the "Israeli" Army should reconsider
its opposition to a unilateral withdrawal just because "Israeli" Premier
Ehud Barak has pledged a pullout by July next year.
The governments policy now is to pull the army out as part of a peace agreement, Mofaz said in an interview with Haaretz newspaper. It would be highly unwise to say what might happen if the government is unable to reach an agreement with the Syrians (by July). When we reach that bridge, well voice our opinion. As of now, the armys position is that it would be wrong to carry out a unilateral withdrawal.
Mofaz based this assessment on the belief that Hizbullah would continue to launch attacks against "Israel" if there were no security guarantees in place prior to a withdrawal.
I imagine that when there is an agreement, the Syrians interests will be such that they will restrain Hizbullah and disarm them, he claimed.
The "Israeli" general, who completed his first year as chief of staff in July, said that the "Israeli" Army would continue to the best of its ability in the occupation zone. If we are to leave as part of a peace agreement, we should be strong when we leave, because it will have implications on the armys future deterrent capability, he said.
Since the beginning of the year, 12 "Israeli" soldiers have been killed in the south and 49 wounded.
"The repeated "Israeli" vows to withdraw from Lebanon have failed to impress Hizbullahs secretary-general, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who said on Sunday that the resistance would continue their operations regardless of political and/or military pressure".

into Litani River watercourse in Western Beqaa.
13:13, the "Israeli" warplanes reiterated raiding into Litani River
watercourse but the IR men intercepted them with Sam-7 anti-aircraft rockets.
Military Operations
(3)
The Islamic Resistance (IR) team of martyrs Fouad Jamil Madani and
Assaad Melhem Chahrour attacked fiercely, at 00:45, Hardoun compound with
the adequate weapons chalking up accurate hits. The smoke columns were
seen billowing out of it.
Also, the IR men spotted, at 10:45, an enemy force as it was fortifying
Zimraya position. Shortly afterwards, the IR unit of martyrs Imad Hussein
and Rodwan El-Anqouni targeted it scoring direct goals and enkindling a
blaze.
Earlier, two groups of the Lebanese Resistance Brigades (LRB) targeted enemy movements inside the positions of Moheisbat and Mashaaroun chalking up direct hits and inflicting a number of casualties among the enemy's ranks.
Lebanon Watch-Australia calls for releasing three Lebanese citizens
kidnapped by the "Israeli" soldiers
(4)
Lebanon Watch-Australia addressed a letter to the Secretary General
of the UN Kofi Annan in which it said that the Lebanese citizens:
"Cosette Elias IBRAHIM a 25-year-old student in the Faculty of Journalism-Lebanese University, Degaulle Boutros BOU TALEB 40 years old; and Samir Georges KHYAME 22 years old; were kidnapped by the "Israeli" soldiers after breaking in their homes in the Rmeish village located in the occupied zone -South Lebanon-on the 2nd of September 99. These citizens were then detained in the Khiam detention camp.
In fact, Cosette Elias IBRAHIM went to visit her mother in her village Rmeish, planning to return to Beirut and pursue her masters degree in Journalism.
The young journalist Cosette Elias IBRAHIM is accused by the "Israelis" of writing reports about the occupied zone; submitting information to the Lebanese army related to the moves and circulation of the "Israeli" army; and rejecting any cooperation with the "Israeli" Forces.
LEBANON WATCH - AUSTRALIA, knew that the detainee Cosette Ibrahim was interrogated by the "Israeli" soldiers and was subject to physical and psychological torture; leading to a depressive breakdown.
Detaining Cosette IBRAHIM and civilians citizens and torturing them in the Khiam prison are against all International laws which requires an urgent intervention of the United Nations as well as the Human Rights Organizations, in order to free the detainees and put an end to these abusive actions against civilians living in the occupied Lebanese territory.
It is important to mention that the "Israeli" Occupation forces had detained on the 2nd of July 1998, the Lebanese civilians Elias NASRALLAH and Tanios ASSAF from the same village Rmeish.
We condemn and denounce the kidnapping of the student in Journalism, Cosette Elias IBRAHIM and other citizens from her native village. Such an action is an unacceptable and terrible violation of Human Rights; and an assault against journalist.
We also would like to remind the International public opinion that 141 persons are detained in the Khiam prison for many years, without trial or charges. These Lebanese detainees suffer from severe health and psychological problems.
We surely trust your action against the violation of Human Rights, and believe in your positive steps to rescue all the detainees in the "Israeli" prisons.
