September Monday 6-1999:
President Lahud: Peace calls for the immediate Israeli withdrawal
President Emil Lahud confirmed the Lebanese firm position regarding
peace in the Middle East, saying that in order to achieve peace, Israel
must withdraw without any condition in accordance with resolution 425 and
to withdraw from the entire Golan until the borders of the 4th of June
1967. He also added that the negotiations should commence from the point
it halted in 1996 and in accordance with the Madrid principles. President
Lahuds speech came at the closing of the French speaking nations summit
in Canada, the members of the summit unanimously agreed for the next summit
to be held in Lebanon in the years 2001 under the title Dialogue
of the Cultures.
Before arriving to Beirut President Lahud met with President Chirak accompanied with the Lebanese and French delegations. The parties discussed political, cultural and economical relations.
Hezbollah: Albright tries to provoke and searches for any opportunity
to relieve the Israelis
A Hezbollah official commented on the statements of the US secretary
of state Albright by saying that: before the blood of the innocent Lebanese
civilians has dried as a result of the continuous Zionist aggression on
Lebanon. The US secretary of state presented us with a number of positions
sealed within them are conditions of the Israelis which reflect their
agony following the Islamic Resistances operations.
He also added that: Albright came to Beirut looking for opportunities to relieve the Israelis with calls such as self restraint. With that she ignored the reason that is causing the Lebanese people to suffer, it being the terrorist acts of the Israelis represented by its occupation, the massacres it commits and the unlawful detentions it practices daily all that with the knowledge of the American administration and the UN. With all that the US secretary of state comes to us and does not even mention the occupation or its agony it reflects on the daily Lebanese life. In that she tries to delude the public opinion that her administration is on the side of the Lebanese government. We in Hezbollah declare that we shall continue in our resistance that has proved that it is the only way in which we can liberate our land. And the American administration should realize that her policy of supporting the occupation will not benefit her but instead it will plant hate in the hearts of all nations.
Finally, we wonder at this strange American behavior that accompanied the visit, which would be disrespectful to any sovereign state with regards to the security arrangements, noting that Beirut and Lebanon are much safer than New York itself.
The April understanding committee condemns the Israeli violations
The April understanding committee condemned the Israeli violations
and demanded they put the civilians aside.
This position came during the Sunday meeting which was looking into ten complaints, seven put forward by the Lebanese delegation and the other three by the Israeli side. The main issue being the bombing of the town of Libaya last Wednesday which resulted in the death of two innocent civilians.
On the other side the Israelis alleged that the Islamic Resistance fired rockets from residential areas as well as the Katushas on settlements in southern Palestine. It should be noted that the Israeli leadership previously denied the firing of Katushas.
