Hizbullah: Resistance will continue
(1)
Sheikh Nabil Qaouk, Hizbullahs commander in
the south, has warned that the resistance is planning to continue attacks
against the occupation forces.
The occupiers have to be punished, not granted security arrangements or political agreements providing them with the security that they have failed to achieve over the past 50 years of conflict, Qaouk said, addressing a delegation of Arab political parties in Jbaa on Monday.
Israeli threats will not provide security but will confirm the necessity of carrying on with different types of operations: ambushes, attacking outposts, qualitative and martyr operations without any rest, he said.
NORTHERN Galilee RESIDENTS "WORRIED" OVER
PULLOUT PROSPECT
(2)
A possible unilateral Israeli withdrawal from
southern Lebanon has worried residents of northern Israel. Officials
sought to calm their fears and outlined security plans for the area. More
in this report.
Israels Deputy Defence Minister outlined to mayors of northern towns how their security will be ensured after the planned Israeli pullback from southern Lebanon. Ephraim Sneh laid stress on the electronic surveillance equipment to be installed to prevent enemy infiltration, and said that troops would also be deployed in towns and villages. Israel radio said he spoke of other measures, but gave no details. Sneh put the cost of the investment at several hundred million shekels. His assurances came as mayors in half a dozen localities in the northern Galilee region called a 24-hour strike Monday of municipal services and schools to protest against the perceived danger of attacks by Lebanese resistance guerrillas. They had already blacked out their towns' street lights Sunday to protest against a unilateral military withdrawal being implemented without consulting them. Israel has always used the need to protect its northern population as the justification of its 21-year presence inside Lebanon. Prime Minister Ehud Barak has promised to pull Israeli troops out of Lebanon by July, but has been vague on whether the withdrawal would be unilateral or come with accords with Lebanon and Syria. But, a senior Israeli military official said Sunday the withdrawal plan depends on an agreement with Lebanon and Syria.
ISRAEL ABDUCTS TWO WOMEN
(3)
The Israeli allied militia abducted two women
from the occupied zone in southern Lebanon. Late Monday afternoon 25 year
old Samira Attiyeh and 23 year old Shamlakan Assaf were abducted from their
homes in Arnoun and taken to the Khiyam detention center. Arnoun was annexed
by the Jewish state into the occupied zone last February. The Israeli
allied militia and Israel often expel Lebanese from the occupied zone
or detain those accused of collaborating with the Lebanese resistance.
On Saturday seven Lebanese were arrested from their homes inside Aita al-shaab,
in the western sector of the zone. More than 140 Lebanese are currently
being held without trial or charge in Khiam. Some have been in detention
for more than ten years. International humanitarian organizations have
documented practices of maltreatment and torture inside Khiam.
