Kharrazi praised Islamic Resistance and Lebanese unity…(1)
"Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, who arrived in Beirut yesterday (Thursday) evening, began his meetings in Lebanon this morning with President Gen Emile Lahoud at the Beitteddine Palace and later met with Prime Minister Dr Salim al-Hoss".

"Turning to the conflict in the south, Kharrazi said that an "Israeli" withdrawal from Lebanon was inevitable, but cautioned the Lebanese to be on their guard during the “critical phase to counter conspiracies and aggression” that may accompany the pullout. This coming phase, he said, “requires alertness and more coordination between the active powers” in Lebanon".

""Israel" should withdraw unconditionally, he said and “shouldn’t expect to receive prizes for all the aggression and murders it has committed over the years.

“The "Israelis" have ambitions on Lebanon’s territories, water and other resources, and this is why they are still, today, continuing with their occupation of south Lebanon,” Kharrazi added.

Iran’s chief diplomat said that the diversity of Lebanese society and the coexistence of different religions within a single political entity was a source of “annoyance to the Zionist regime which was founded on the principles of hegemony and racism.

“It’s normal for this regime to regard Lebanon as the first and nearest threat … and to create conspiracies to divide its

different confessions and attack the special value this country has in the region,” Kharrazi said.

"He added that Iran regards Lebanon’s religious and confessional diversity as a “strong point,” unlike others who see it as a weakness.

“What is important is to preserve this characteristic and in order for Lebanon to handle its responsibility and play its role for the interest of the region, it shouldn’t be harmed from the inside or the outside,” he said.

"Kharrazi said that Lebanon has proved its ability and power to defend itself, and praised the Islamic resistance for confronting the "Israeli" Army.

"After his meeting with Lahoud earlier in the day, he cautioned against expecting too much from the election of moderate Ehud Barak as "Israel's" prime minister".

"Reiterating Iranian support for Hizbullah, Kharrazi said that “the resistance has to continue its path until all "Israeli" troops leave Lebanon and until "Israel" is forced to implement UN Resolution 425 unconditionally.”

"Asked if Hizbullah would refrain from cross-border attacks against "Israel" if the Jewish state pulled out its troops from the south, he said, “this matter exclusively concerns Hizbullah, which is free to decide on what to do".
