Three civilians martyred and one wounded in Arnoun Blast (3)
A delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross was awaiting permission from the Israelis last night to enter the village of Arnoun to retrieve the remains of at least one man who was killed in an unclaimed bomb blast late on Friday.

Hussein Mehdi Attieh, 19, was blown to pieces in the explosion which reportedly occurred beside a house owned by Ali Tawbeh in the occupied half of the village. The house was empty at the time.
"Israeli" troops investigated the scene of the blast on Saturday morning and took a wallet belonging to Attieh.

Initial reports said that, other than Attieh, Ali Olleik and his cousin Wissam Olleik, were also killed. But the Olleik's later arrived unhurt in Nabatieh.

An Internal Security Forces patrol was shot at by "Israeli" troops as it neared the site of the bombing on Saturday morning.

The circumstances of the blast were not immediately clear. Hizbullah said it had no information over the incident.

Tellingly, an "Israeli" pilotless reconnaissance plane was flying overhead at the time of the explosion. The drones can detonate roadside bombs by remote control, suggesting that the explosive device could have been planted by the "Israelis".

The ICRC requested permission from the Israelis to gather Attieh's  remains, which lie scattered over a field beside the Tawbeh house. The "Israelis" have so far denied permission. Around ten "Israeli" soldiers entered Arnoun yesterday accompanied by two tanks to conduct house-to-house searches and interrogate residents.

Eight residents have been detained by the "Israelis", including a 12-year-old boy, according to security sources.

Arnoun, lying 5km southeast of Nabatieh, lies in an uneasy no-man's land beneath the "Israeli" position in Beaufort castle. The population, most of whom have fled, is regularly harassed by Israeli patrols from the castle.

Recommendations of Arab and International of Symposium (4)
The Follow-up Committee for the Lebanese Detainees in "Israeli" Prisons (FCLD) called for investigation into the human rights breaches perpetrated by "Israel".

FCLD today published the recommendations of a week-long Arab and international symposium on detainees in Israeli detention centers held on July 14.

The UN General Assembly must condemn an Israeli court decision that legalized holding Lebanese detainees as hostages, the decision being a war crime, the recommendations added.

They also called for the creation of a detainees department in the foreign and justice ministries, besides organizing an international solidarity campaign to support the cause of Palestinian and Arab detainees in "Israeli" prisons.

FCLD said all the detainees in "Israeli" prisons must be released regardless of negotiations or exchange processes.

Islamic Resistance Operations:
In its 24-7-1998 statement, the Islamic Resistance announced that, at 18:30, the group of two martyrs Hussein Assaf and Kassem Nahim made a swift attack at Bir Kallab outpost with the machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades scoring direct hits and destroying its southern fortification.

Druze Confession Religious Leaders (5)
The Druze confession religious leaders maintained that:

The Druze attitude came during a meeting held by the religious leaders of the confession. The meeting was called by Sheikh Abou Mohammad Jawad Walieddine on behalf of Sheikh Abou Hassan Aref Halawi, the two poles of Druze sect, and attended by a lot of Druze religious dignitaries.

Sheikh Abou Mohammad Jawad proceeded the session by cursing everyone collaborates with the enemy whatever his denomination is. He, also, considered the collaboration as an aggression against the homeland, sect, Arabism and dignity.

"He who defends the 'Israeli' agent is himself an agent", he said.
