Boueiz asks Annan's assistance (4)
Lebanon foreign Affairs Minister Fares Boueiz sent a message to the
United Nation's Secretary General Kofi Annan demanding the international
bodies to interfere with the purpose of releasing the Lebanese detainees
and internees. Here are some excerpts:
"The detention of these innocent Lebanese represents a blatant infraction of the human rights where none of them has been accused since their arrest. Also, they are sustained by various kinds of torture in contradiction with the Fourth Geneva Covenant stated in 1949. This Covenant and its first Protocol state that the civilians, subjected to a foreign occupation, shall not be underwent to any kind of torture or arbitrary detention "
" Furthermore, "Israel" recently apprehended dozens of Lebanese and since 1997 it had prohibited the representatives of the International Committee for the Red Cross and families to visit periodically the detainees "
" In addition to a number of patients, girls and old men, there are more than eleven minors violating, thus, the Article no:37 of the Child Rights Agreement declared by the United Nations on 20-11-1989 "
" It is worthmentioning, that Lahd's Militia had kidnapped sixty Lebanese citizens on 29-5-1998 according to information provided by the international human bodies "
"The most clear sign of "Israeli" scorn for the international law is the decision taken by its Supreme Court on 4-3-1998 over the continuation of detaining the Lebanese as "bargaining chips" and without trial or being accused. This decision represents a flagrant violation of the International Declaration for the Human Rights "
" On the fifty anniversary of the International Declaration of the Human Rights and on the Lebanon's Day of Internee, we call you to exert your best efforts so as to put an end for the tragedy of these detainees and their sufferance "
" Our urgent demand today is to do everything in order to release the Lebanese detainees from the "Israeli" jails "
Settlements a War Crime (5)
The conference which was convened at the initiative of the UN General
Assembly is debating the definition of crimes over which the court will
have jurisdiction. The article to which "Israel" objects defines as a crime
the transfer, directly or indirectly, by the occupying power, of parts
of its "own civilian population into the territory it occupies, or the
deportation or transfer of all or parts of the population of the occupied
territory, within or outside this territory". Some 320,000 "Israelis" have
settled in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank including east Jerusalem. More
than 13,000 have settled on the Golan Heights.
