Once again, the "Israeli" occupation forces breached the April 1996 Understanding through targeting the civilians in Southern Lebanon with artillery shells and heavy machine gun fire which hit their properties, cars and groves. At sometimes, Unifil interfered so as to secure a safe transport for some of them.

Amid these "Israeli" violations of Lebanon's sovereignty, the Lebanese commemorated the ninth anniversary of kidnapping Sheikh Abdel-Karim Obeid from his home at Jibsheit village. Obeid is still subjected to continuous administrative detention inside "Israel's" jails. The participants called for releasing all Lebanese detainees and internees, especially Sheikh Obeid.

The Ninth Anniversary of Obeid's Adduction
Hizbullah's deputy secretary general Sheikh Naeem Kassem said during a rally in Jibsheit southern Lebanon that his group will not accept a swap to be linked with one person in a reference to "Israeli" navigator Ron Arad.

Arad went missing in Lebanon in 1986 when his plane was downed over southern Lebanon. Arad is believed to be still alive but his whereabouts are not known. "We do not know anything about the whereabouts of Arad or whether he is alive or dead…" Kassem said.

The Sheikh said Hizbullah will not spare efforts that will help in releasing all the Lebanese detainees among them Sheikh Abdel Karim Obeid, Sheikh Naeem Kassem said during a rally to mark the kidnapping of Obeid.

Sheikh Abdel Karim Obeid was kidnapped by "Israeli" commandos from his home in Jibsheit on July 28th, 1989. "Israel" had said Sheikh Obeid's release is linked with the fate of Arad. Arad was first captured by the Amal movement in 1986 but he disappeared later that year after his captors left him where he was held in Maidoun, located in southern Lebanon.

Earlier this month, Hizbullah's secretary general H.E. Sayed Hassan Nassrallah said that Arad disappeared when his captors left him after there was a clash between guerrillas and "Israeli" troops near the area where Arad was held in.

The "Israelis" snatched Dirani hoping that they will find information about the whereabouts of Arad. "Israel" had said that any future swap between Lebanon and the Jewish State should include Arad.

In this regard, faithfulness to the Resistance (FTR) bloc member Nabatieh MP Mohammed Raad said the "Israeli" entity is holding Sheikh Abdel-Karim Obeid and Hajj Mustafa Dirani as hostages to get information on Ron Arad.

Obeid and his bodyguard were abducted by "Israeli" commandos from his house in his hometown of Jibsheit, near Nabatieh, in July 1989. "Israel" claimed it captured the cleric to know the whereabouts of as he was staging aggressions 1986 Ron Arad, an "Israeli" pilot whose plane was gunned down in against Lebanese civilians kidnapped another Islamist leader; Chief of the Believers' Resistance, Mustafa Dirani, "In 1994, "Israel" was also abducted from his house in Qsarnaba (the Beqaa).

"Israel" claimed that Dirani, the former security head of Amal, was also aware of Arad's whereabouts.

The resistance knows nothing about Arad's fate and is not concerned with this issue," Raad said at a" rally in Sidon on the ninth anniversary of the "Israeli" occupation forces' abduction of Sheikh Obeid.
The ceremony, organized by the Association of Mount Amel Ulama, was attended by many dignitaries besides hundreds of people.

Raad, also head of Hizbullah's Political Council, criticized the government for not making sufficient efforts to release Lebanese prisoners from "Israeli" detention centers.

Why doesn't the government launch an international campaign to free the detainees? Why doesn't it" form support committees with Lebanese emigrants around the world to bring the international attention to this issue? Raad asked.

He also criticized the government's lack of care for the families of the prisoners and the freed detainees.

On the same occasion, Iranian charge' d'affaires Mohammed Irani and Hizbullah official in the south his Eminence Sheikh Nabil Qawooq, along with a Hizbullah delegation, visited Obeid's family.
The Mujahedeen's determination is the only thing we are betting on to release our prisoners. As we were able to free some of our prisoners a few weeks ago, we will manage to free the rest of them, Sheikh Qawooq said.

As long as they are imprisoned, we all consider ourselves in captivity, he added.
For his part. Irani said victory cannot be achieved without sacrifices.
The continuation of the detention of Sheikh Obeid and his brothers is evidence that this Ummah is alive and efficient, Irani said.

Elsewhere, the Follow-up Committee for Lebanese Detainees in "Israeli" Prisons (FCLD) held a meeting in solidarity with the detained cleric and all Lebanese and Arab prisoners in "Israeli" prisons.
The meeting which was held at the Lebanese Press Union HQ, was attended by several officials, MPs and party members.

Speeches were delivered by Rabah Shahrour (FCLD), Abdel-Karim Hmayyed (on behalf of freed detainees), Obeid's son, Mojahed, FCLD Secretary Mohammad Safa, Nehmeh Jomaa (Lebanese Human Rights Association), Faithfulness to the Resistance bloc member MP Abdallah Qassir, and
Administrative Reform Minister Bshara Merhej.

Speeches stressed the necessity of freeing the detainees and taking care of the freed ones to facilitate their integration in social life after their years of suffering in captivity.

… For hits part, the Administrative Reform Minister Bshara Merhej said: "The abduction operations of Sheikh Abdel-Karim Obeid and Abou Ali (Mustafa) Dirani from their houses in South Lebanon and Central Beqaa along with another abduction operation are clear terrorist actions. He considered these kinds of acts as a blatant violation of human rights and indicate that "Israel" ignores and disdains all the international lawr, conventions and standards".

Merhej, also, regarded the international silence is something strange and unpreceivable. He talked about attempts to depict these two terrorist operations as similar to capturing servicemen in action.

Tunisia shut off its office in Tel Aviv (7):
The French magazine "John Evrick" reported Tunisia decided on the first day of the current month closing, once at all, its Diplomatic Representation Office in Tel Aviv.

The second man of the office Khamees Jihnawi was demanded to prepare himself to leave for his country. "Israel", in its turn, made the same thing as it sent for its representative in Tunisia Shaloum Kohin who was residing in an hotel in the capital.

The French magazine made it clear that these steps came after the Tunisian authorities had rejected granting visas to "Israelis" interested in sharing with Euro-Mediterranean meeting for a coming economical summit to be held in Tunisia as United States of America demanded.
