“Israeli” Repressive Actions:

A farmer and his son, both from Shebaa, were expelled from the zone yesterday without being allowed to go home and tell their families, security sources said.
Khalil Ali Hamdan, 48, and his son Nawaf, 26, were taken by South Lebanon Army militiamen to Zimraya on the edge of the zone’s eastern sector.
 

The explosions, which caused no casualties, occurred at 1:30am and echoed through the market town. 

At dawn, soldiers cordoned off the site of the blasts, near an olive grove in the Ghawarinah district east of the town, while sappers retrieved bomb fragments from the three horizontal craters, each about 1.5 meters in diameter. 

Any doubts as to the identity of the perpetrators were dispelled when inscriptions in Hebrew were found on some of the bomb fragments. 

The devices appeared to have been detonated by the pilotless reconnaissance plane that was heard in the skies above the town at the time of the explosions or from the Dabsheh position, which lies less than 1 km away from the scene. 

The attack had all the hallmarks of two similar roadside bomb blasts in the same area last year. 

On May 6, two civilians were killed and two wounded in a bomb blast and on November 8, a shepherd was wounded when four bombs exploded in a field on the outskirts of the town. The blast killed 35 of his sheep. 

Hebrew inscriptions were also found on the remnants of the bombs following both attacks. 
Roadside bombs are regularly planted just outside the occupation zone by Israeli commando units in a bid to hit guerrillas before they infiltrate the zone. 

However, the devices are often planted in inhabited areas, with scant regard to the safety of the local population. 

At least seven civilians were killed and six wounded by Israeli roadside bombs in 1997. 
Rather than an oversight on behalf of the Israelis, the Hebrew writing is apparently left on the bombs deliberately, as a signal to the Lebanese and Syrian governments as well as Hizbullah that the Israelis are prepared to conduct the war outside the zone.
