Ten professionals of GCMHP have participated in group therapy training course. The course started on 1993 for 5 years. A Norwegian group psychotherapist, Dr. Freddy Reddy, visited GCMHP for this purpose twice a year, two weeks each visit. As a continuation of the course the trainer spent one week in May. He came in 17th until 22nd May 1997. The second visit will be in October 1997.

In cooperation with School of Psychotherapy at Tel Aviv University , Israeli Mental Health Workers for Peace, eight members of the GCMHP staff attended a weekly course in psychotherapy at Tel Aviv University. Majority of the participant were selected from the Human Rights Committee. The course started on 1992, one day a week. The course was finished in February 1997, the participant received their certificates.

Rafiq Awad Allah finished successfully a Master degree of Psychology from Algeria in March 1997.

Dr. Mostafh El Masri, Dr. Nemer Abu Zarka and Dr. Taysser Diab received their certificates as postgraduate Diploma in Psychiatry in April 1997.

The curriculum hops to place the study of Mental Health within the wider social , Political, environmental and biology contacts . It will analyses the length between Mental Health and Human Rights . In January 1997 , 15 students started therapist graduate Diploma in Community Mental Health , The Diploma aim equip candidates with knowledge and skills related to Community Mental Health. Enclosed a tables of activities of member of Human Rights Committee in this activity.

- On January 14th, 1997 Mr. Ahmed Abu Twahina, Dr. Mustafa El Masri, Mr. Hasan Ziada have conducted a seminar on Introduction to Group Therapy and how to chose cases suitable for therapy. It was attended by professionals from GCMHP.

- On February 19th 1997 Dr. Colin MacMollin from Flinders University , Australia was invited to make a study day on School Counseling in which he discussed counseling techniques relation between counselors and teachers , and the relationship between the councilor and the students. The day was attended by 15 participants including counselors , teachers and members of university graduates association as well as participants from Community Women leaders .

- A member of Human Rights Committee presented a paper titled The role of care givers in helping traumatize children in a workshop of the Children committee. The workshop took place in Gaza between 22nd - 25th /2/1997 Study Day in school counseling.

- 26^th Feb 1997 workshop on " Women and divorce " Between Islamic Sharia law and reality in Kan Younis and attended by 50 people for 25 organization.

-6^th March three members of HRC conducted a study day jointly with Women Empowerment project in GCMHP entitled Violence against Women in Palestinian Society.

-29^th March HRC participated in workshop jointly with Drug Committee in GCMHP entitled Drug addiction as consequence of imprisonment and torture.

-29, 30^th April, members of HRC conducted a work shop entitled Rehabilitating of Survivor Victims of Human Rights Violations. This was conducted jointly with Rehabilitation Centre of Ex-political prisoners- Ministry of social Welfare.

-17-22nd May, four members of HRC participated in group therapy course conducted in GCMHP.

- On 27th May, 1997 a study day about possession was held at GCMHP. The study day tackled the role of mental health professionals and traditional healers in possession. culture and religion domination of mental disorders was discussed. More that 35 professionals from GCMHP participated in the discussion.

- On 30th June 1997, a study day was organized about the suicidal attempts among the Palestinians in Gaza. Three members of the human rights committee presented papers about suicide, its definitions, the general causes of suicide, the social and psychological views of suicide. A case was presented by a member of human rights committee followed by full discussion. Culture, religion and their impact on suicide was discussed.

Eight members of the human rights committee had been supervised by a Swedish psychotherapist for 1 month (June 1997).

1.2. The total number of sessions (including initial interview, follow up sessions, and home visits) conducted in Febraury was 101.

1.3 The total number of sessions (including initial interview, follow up sessions, and home visits) conducted in March was 128.

1.4 The total number of sessions (including initial interview, follow up sessions, and home visits) conducted in April was 195.

1.5 The total number of sessions (including initial interview, follow up sessions, and home visits) conducted in May was 183.

1.6 The total number of sessions (including initial interview, follow up sessions, and home visits) conducted in June was 245.

From the data we have, there was 7 cases of indirect VHR closed their files, 3 direct VHR were controlled, 3 direct VHR were controlled, 11 cases of direct VHR cured, 24 cases of direct VHR were improved, 27 of indirect VHR improved, 6 cases of direct VHR were new, 13 cases of indirect VHR were new, one case of indirect VHR relapsed and one case of indirect VHR referred.
