Save the Life of Ghassan Al Addassi
Birzeit - The Islamic Bloc in Birzeit University is gravely concerned for the well being of our colleague Ghassan Al Addassi - a student in the university. Al Addassi has been arrested by the Palestinian Preventive Security Service (PSS) on the 29th of March 1998, in the middle of night from his home in Al Bireh. Al Addassi has been denied his right to meet with the lawyer of the university since he was arrested 25 days ago. Only one member of his family (who was detained for a short while) was allowed to visit him for less than one hour.
Various reports talked about Al Addassi being brutally tortured -including beating him on his neck, hanging him from the ceiling of his prison cell, forbidding him from proper nutrition, threatening and torturing family members, etc…-. The thing which concerns us very much. Where we consider the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the PSS responsible for his life and well being.
To continue detaining Al Addassi with out any legal bases for more than 25 days, and to continue arresting and detaining hundreds of Palestinians for political reasons are serious violations of human rights in the Palestinian territories. We demand the PA to release ALL political prisoners (including Ghassan Al Addassi) immediately, and to stop all procedures that violate human rights in the Palestinian territories.
You are asked to help Ghassan Al Addassi and other political prisoners in PA jails, by adding your voice in protest to the continued prevention order, and demand that all political prisoners are released.
