Getting Around

Shared taxis, services, run on particular routes between villages and towns. These are frequent and cheap. They set off from established spots around Ramallah, one of which is a new taxi station with boards stating destinations just behind the fruit and vegetable market.

Negotiate with drivers for a trip off the established routes. A 7-seater stretch Mercedes can be hired with the driver for the day for between 250-350 NIS. A good place to ask is the 'Maktab Nijma' (The Star Taxi office) on 02 995 6663, near the Arab Bank or any one of the many taxis companies or drivers around the streets of Ramallah.

Ramallah has a limited bus service running to Jerusalem and Birzeit and leaving from near the market. There are also a number of car hire agencies in and around Ramallah. You will need an international driving license and most agencies require you to be over 21 years old. If you're in the mood for splashing out, there is now the Executive Limousine Service (see picture above!). Hire a stretch white limo on tel. 02 998 7219 / 050 390 372.

Or why not hike through the scenic countryside? Services will drop you off or pick you up anywhere along a route. If you get tired of walking stand at the side of the road and stick out a finger pointing it towards the ground (this is the recognised signal to flag down a taxi). During summer months walkers should make sure to have some sort of hat and an adequate amount of water.
