Ramallah used to have three cinemas, Al-Walid, Al-Jamil and A-Dunya. A-Dunya closed in 1948 and the remaining two closed during the Intifada due to a number of factors including the problem of curfews, strikes and the economic situation. Al-Walid has recently reopened to screen a mixture of Egyptian, Lebanese, Indian and American film releases. Two films are shown daily at 10am and 3pm and one of these films is repeated at 7.15pm. Tickets are 7NIS and 10NIS. The clientele appear to be exclusively male.

This centre runs a regular programme of films (in Arabic, French and with English subtitles), theatre, lectures and classes in music and folk (dubka) dancing. It also organises a number of special events including the Palestine International Festival. Pick up a programme in the local area or call for information.

The University is a short and speedy service ride from Ramallah and frequently hosts local and touring international performers. In the recent past these have included a troupe of Spanish Flamenco dancers, a British production of a Midsummer Night's Dream, a Mormon orchestra and a reading by the world renowned Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. The Ramallah First Sarriyeh has a pleasant swimming pool, with a women's day on Tuesdays. Entrance is 15 NIS. To get here walk down the Main Street and keep going for about twenty five minutes, it will be on your right hand side.
