FOR HISTORICAL STUDIES"

Re-launching of the Palestinian Society for Historical Studies ("Aj-Jama'iyyeh al-Filistiniyyeh lid-Dirasat at-Tarikhiyyeh")

On Friday, December 25th, 1995, a number of concerned historians and history professors at Palestinian universities took the initiative to re-launch the Palestinian Society for Historical Studies. The rebirth of this society took place in Jerusalem, in which its headquarters are located. It is intended to encourage and nurture the study of history, while making the greatest possible use of local potential.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To follow and orient historical studies and to encourage research and publication in the field;
2. To plan for and hold seminars and symposia, particularly those dealing with Palestinian history and culture, something which is particularly vital since they have long been subject to neglect, distortion and marginalization in the region and around the world;
3. To edit a specialized academic journal, contributions to which will be refereed prior to their acceptance for publications;
4. To strengthen ties between this and other academic societies, research centers and universities in the Arab world and around the globe.
