PAS Lecturers:

Mousa Khoury (right) (MA and PhD, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor)

Dr. Khoury is the teacher coordinator of PAS Arabic Language courses. He teaches MS Arabic levels III and IV. His specializations include:

Sami Sha’ath (right) (MA, Khartoum International Institute)

Mr. Sha’ath teaches Colloquial Arabic levels I and II and MS Arabic levels I and II. His specializations include:

Reema Hamami (MA and PhD, Temple University)

Dr Hamami is a member of BZU’s Women Studies Department. Her specializations include:

Abdul Sattar Kasim (PhD, University of Missouri at Columbia)

Dr Kasim teaches political science at Najah University (Nablus) and part-time at BZU. His specializations include:

Raja Bahlul (PhD, Indiana University)

Dr Bahlul is a member of the Cultural Studies Department at Birzeit University. His specializations include:

Randa Nasser (Ph.D., University of Utah)

Dr. Randa Nasser has her doctorate degree in Sociology and is a full time faculty member of the Sociology department at Birzeit University. Her specializations include:


PAS Office Administrative Staff

Muna Giacaman-Tamimi (MA English/Linguistics, with emphasis on teaching English as a second language, San Francisco State University, California, USA)

Ms. Tamimi has been the head coordinator of the PAS Program since the summer of 1998. She is currently working on the expansion of the program to include an intensive one-year Arabic language instruction course for non-native speakers of Arabic as a preparation for their enrollment in the regular BZU undergraduate program. She has also been teaching English as a second language for 12 years, 5 of those at BZU, and specializes in curriculum development and language proficiency testing.

Yoke van der Meulen (BA Sociology, Birzeit University)

A graduate of Birzeit University herself and long-term resident in the country, Yoke is able to help students understand and getting accustomed to their new environment. As assistant coordinator she participates with Ms Tamimi in the general management of the program. She specializes in cross-cultural communication and is multi-lingual, with fluent knowledge of Dutch, Arabic, English, French and German.

Sa’edah Ayesh-Abu Ghosh (BA Mathematics, Birzeit University)

Sa’edah has worked as a volunteer and administrative assistant for the PAS Program since 1996. She organizes the extra-curricular activities of the program and keeps the students informed of all they need to know in order to make the most of their time at Birzeit University.
