The Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem

PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE RECENT RESTORATIONS, PART 4

Workmen lay out paper markers for the coming interior decorative rays and stars. The twelve golden rays that were to surround the dome were cast from light, reinforced gipsin and fixed to casselated beams, the latter imported from England.
Outside, the dome of the Holy Sepulchre rotunda as seen by millions of visitors to Jerusalem each year. The scaffold on the top was set in place to renovate the cross.
The smaller dome on the right is the Catholikon, a church dedicated by the Crusaders in 1149 over the site of Calvary. The red roofed structure in front of the Catholikon dome is the Greek Orthodox administered bell tower, also a Crusader installation.
