A photo taken of the Holy Sepulchre in 1858, 22 years after emergency repair work was carried out to prevent the dome's collapse and ten years before the major fire of 1868.
The inside dome of the rotunda, in a photo taken after the fire of 1868, showing traces of the intricate scrollwork around the rotunda lantern.
After the fire burnt the scrollwork away, although the dome would be repaired, it would not see as complex a decoration until the present day, 128 years later. The devastation caused by the fire is clearly visible in the photo on the right.
