Two BZU Students Hurt in Blockade Protest 8 May 2001 Two students were injured today during a peaceful demonstration that took place on the Ramallah-Birzeit Road. During the past week, the Israeli military forces have been imposing a very strict roadblock on the way to the University, causing a delay of over an hour and a half each morning. Over 200 students marched chanting slogans against the roadblock and the continuous harassments, and calling for a peaceful environment for education. The soldiers shot sound and tear-gas bombs and rubber bullets to disperse the marchers, resulting in the injury of two students. The occupation forces are imposing a roadblock on the way to Birzeit University greatly delaying and even sometimes making it impossible for students and staff to reach the University on time. The normal commute from Ramallah to Birzeit that takes about 10 minutes, took one hour and a half this morning when the Israeli occupation forces, for no apparent reason, parked their military vehicle horizontally blocking traffic on both lanes. The roadblock and the delay is also affecting the daily lives of the thousands of residents in the 30 villages in the surrounding area, whose only road to Ramallah - a major commercial city - is the Ramallah-Birzeit road.
