A call to participate in a peaceful protest march

Posted: March 11th, 2001

In light of the siege imposed on the Ramallah area and the destruction of part of the Ramallah – Birzeit road, making it impossible for vehicular passage, Birzeit University along with the ministry of culture and information, as well as other national institutions in the West Bank, are calling for a peaceful march to protest this measure, which affects the normal operations of the University and its 5000 students as well as the daily lives of about 65,000 inhabitants living in the neighboring villages.

The University strongly condemns the Israeli measure and considers it as an aggressive act and a serious violation of human rights – specially so, in light of the various recent attempts to find a peaceful solution to the Palestinian Israeli conflict and to end the Israeli military occupation of the areas occupied in the June 1967 war.

The march will proceed from in front of the Best Eastern Hotel in Ramallah at 10 am on Monday March 12, 2001.
