Arab American Action Network - Hassan Mustafa Abdallah Memorial Scholarship Fund Fundraiser Banquet

November 28, 2001

The Hassan Mustafa Abdallah Memorial Scholarship Fund held a fundraising banquet in Chicago, Illinois on November 24, the objective of which was to increase the amount of an endowed scholarship established at Birzeit University in April 2001. Key-note speaker, Dr. Hanna Nasir, President of Birzeit University, discussed the various challenges that Birzeit University has been overcoming during this past year in order to continue to carry out its national duty and uphold its academic mission.

The Hassan Abdallah Endowed Scholarship at Birzeit University honors the life-long commitment of Dr. Hassan Mustafa Abdallah to the Palestinian and Arab communities in the United States and in the Arab world. In his professional career, Dr. Abdallah, a Palestinian originally from Beitunia, served as a representative of the Arab League in the United States, as Jordanian Consul General to Chicago and as a civic leader for the Arab-American community in Chicago.

The scholarship, given in the form of an endowment, will provide financial assistance to one University student in perpetuity. It is hoped that the full amount of the endowment will be reached by the end of the current academic year.

Birzeit University is working to establish endowed scholarships as not only will they assist current students to continue their education but will be maintained for future generations of Birzeit University students.
