** All these homes were demolished for having no building permits, permits which are difficult or impossible to obtain. The actual political intent of demolishing Palestinian homes is always to restrict natural growth of Palestinian communities, and often because they lie in the path of a settler by-pass road or for lying near the illegal Jewish settlements and military installations of Jerusalem and the West Bank.

In the past several months, the Israeli government accelerated its campaign against Palestinian homes in Jerusalem and the West Bank. The demolition of Palestinian homes can be seen as the final necessary step in order to consolidate Israeli control over Jerusalem and the West Bank before the final status negotiations, to cleanse areas of the West Bank of a Palestinian presence in order to negotiate over "empty" land near the settlements and by-pass roads.
