PALESTINIAN PRISONERS BEGIN HUNGER STRIKE IN NABLUS
24 November
On 24 November, approximately 40 political prisoners, detained since mid-October without charge or trial, declared a hunger strike this morning at the Jneid prison in Nablus. The detainees are seeking an end to the practice of political detention and of prolonged incarceration without charge or trial. Families of the hunger strikers were denied access to their relatives following the announcement of the strike.
LAW expresses grave concern over the continued policy of detention without charge or trial of political activists, and points out that it is a violation of human rights and international law. LAW demands the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners, and for the Palestinian National Authority to act on its commitment to international standards of human rights.
