Open Letter to Warren Christopher
from the
Land Defense Committees
The Central Land Defense Committee, which represents all the local Land Defense Committees in the West Bank, are sending you, Warren Christopher, this message because as US Secretary of State you are a sponsor of the peace process.
We, the representatives of the landowners of the West Bank, reject the current Israeli settlement policies and aggressive activities which have continued since the Oslo Accords were signed. We believe that they are clearly aimed at reinforcing and consolidating Israeli control over the entire West Bank, in direct violation of the Oslo Accord. For us, the landowners and farmers of the West Bank, there can be no peace with settlements.
We believe that, if you are truly interested in pursuing peace in this region, you will demand with us the following:
An end to all settlement activity;
The removal of settlements, which are like a barrier against peace;
Recognize that there is no alternative to the full implementation of UN Resolutions 242 and 338.
We hope you will hear us, and continue working towards a just peace between Palestine and Israel.
Land Defense Committees are non-political, grass-roots organizations of landowners founded in August and September 1994 to respond to land confiscation and property destruction.
