DEMONSTRATION IN EL KHADER
FRIDAY, 28 JULY AT 12:00 PM
The residents of El Khader have called for a demonstration for Friday, 28 July at 12:00 p.m. to protest the aggressive activity of the settlers of Efrat. All people concerned with the defense of Palestinian land must present a united front to challenge this illegal and provocative act. The residents of El Khader therefore invite all concerned groups and individuals to join them in their protest, and request maximum participation from all sides in the demonstration on Friday.
Settlers from Efrat moved to the hill belonging to El Khader residents (some six kilometers from Efrat) on Thursday, 20 July, announcing the creation of a new "neighborhood" of Efrat. By Friday, several hundred settlers had established a tent colony under the protection of the military. The settlers have set up six tents, an electrical generator, chemical toilets and water supplies in an obvious bid to make this expansion a reality. Bulldozers have already begun work to build a road linking this hill and Efrat. El Khader residents began a vigil at the site soon after, and have called this demonstration in support of their protest.
On 23 July the landowners, with their lawyer, lodged a complaint with the Bethlehem police against the settlers.
