Understanding perspective, types and applications, Different methods of drawing perspectives, Enlargement of perspective, Understanding shade and shadows, Application of shades and shadows on  architectural elevations and 3-D objects.

ENAR 223  Visual Communication 1 (2-0-6)

Technical hand drawing using different skills and materials ( pencils, charcoal, water colors ,oil colors, inks...etc.), Applications on different freehand drawing techniques, Graphic materials and tools as instrument to develop a visual perception of mass and void, Still life composition, Landscape and architectural elements in the surrounding environment, Approach to different means of harmony: proportions, rhythm, balance, scale...etc., through freehand drawing.

ENAR 224  Visual Communication 2 (2-0-6)

Introduction to the elements of visual composition: line, color, form, space, area and texture, Control of their properties and fundamentals of their applications, Studio exercises developing the visual perception visual definitions and relationships, Applications in two-dimensional and sculptural expressions, Students shall submit complete file of their works upon termination of the semester.

Prerequisite: Acceptance at the Department.
 

ENAR 225 Architectural Drawing and Presentation (2-0-6)

Symbols used in architectural drawings, freehand techniques, lettering, pen and ink drawing, dimensioning and scaling, rendering  architectural projects emphasizing on sites, plans, elevation, sections, and  staircases.

Prerequisite: Mechanical Engineering 121.
 

ENAR 227 Design 1 (2-1-3)

Design course emphasizing outdoor and indoor spaces, and their  relation  to the human behavior, through developing  a sense of observation and  analytical vision within the urban environment, basic fundamentals of architectural composition, interplay of form and space and means of their harmonization, applications on 3-D compositions.

Prerequisite: Acceptance at the Department.
 

ENAR 232  Design 2 (3-1-6)

Decisive factors of architecture, natural and  social environment as fundamental factor for architectural design, site analysis, functional, relationships, outdoor and  indoor spatial requirements, conceptualization and generation of forms and spaces,  architectural style.
Design studio emphasizing the influence of different aspects such as functional, constructional, economic and Aesthetic aspects on architectural design.

Prerequisite: Architecture 227.
 

ENAR 234  History of architecture 1 (3-3-0)

A survey and analysis of historical development of  architecture and Human settlements during  the Prehistoric, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Greek and Roman civilizations within a historic, cultural and technical framework, Analysis of the issues of art of architecture within its human context and emphasizing  on the architectural style in terms of morphology, construction, and formation.

Prerequisite: Acceptance at the Department.
 

ENAR 235  History of architecture 2 (3-3-0)

A survey and analysis  of architecture from Early Christian period to the end of the Renaissance Period, with special emphasis on interaction between Byzantine and Islamic architecture,  Comparative Analysis of architectural styles during the different ages  till the Neo-classical period.

Prerequisite: Architecture 234.
 

ENAR 236  Building Construction 1 (3-2-3)

An  introduction to Building constructions, Building materials: their properties, use and performance in different environments, Building construction systems, Site preparation,  Foundations, Walls, Staircases, Symbols used in preparation of working drawings, Applications on different architectural details and elements that are the subject of this course.

Prerequisite: Acceptance at the Department.
 

ENAR 237  Building Construction  2 (3-2-3)

Floors and roofs of different kinds, Expansion, contraction and settlement joints, Insulation materials, Internal finishing materials,  kitchens and bathrooms, Fireplaces, Techniques used for protection against environmental forces, Presentation of working drawings and details for medium scale buildings.

Prerequisite: Architecture 236.
 

ENAR 301  Field school in local Architecture (0-0-0)

A field workshop for a period of 45 days during  the summer course, that concentrates on  study and analysis of the Architectural heritage and values in Palestine. Students shall work in groups spread over different pre-selected locations at the Palestinian cities and villages, and according to a specific time-schedule they shall survey and document the selected locations and suggest proposals for their development.

Prerequisite: Architecture 324.

Principals of working drawing preparations, Dimensioning and schedules for structural openings and finishing material, Architectural and constructional details, Working drawings for electrical, mechanical and sanitary works, introduction to the tender documents and calculation of quantities, Working drawings for prefabricated buildings.

Architectural Trends in the world from the Industrial Revolution to the present time, A review and analysis of the philosophic  origins and the cultural, social, economical, political and technical factors that contributed to the development of these trends, Lectures includes discussions the works of pioneers architects and their relevance to the region.

Architectural trends in the Arab and Islamic countries in the twentieth century, Problem of heritage and modernity in the works of Arab architects, The philosophical, cultural, social, and technical approaches that have determined the method of handling of this problem.

The art and architecture of the  Islamic civilization surveyed from its beginning to the downfall of the Ottoman empire,  Survey and analysis of the major periods and trends in historical, cultural, social and technical context, Comparative study concerning houses and schools in the Islamic world, Analysis of fundamental elements such as muqarnasat, mashrabiat, padestrian zones, decorative elements... etc.

Environment as  a major determinant of architectural design, Analysis of main issues of Natural  environment (weather, site, vegetation and water), Social environment, Urban environment and building materials .
Design studio emphasizing integrated architectural program on simple topographic sites, and concentrating mainly on the impact of various environmental factors on the architectural design.

Prerequisite: Architecture 232 & Civil Engineering 323.

Philosophy and methodology of Architectural design, Analysis of major parameters of architectural style, nature and shape.
Design studio on medium scale projects emphasizing certain philosophical  approach and following up a clear design methodology that deals with issues like architectural style, image and nature.

Professional training during the Summer course, for a  period of six weeks, at an specialized engineering institution.

ENAR 442  Principles of Planning 2 (4-2-6)

Urban design theories within its environmental , ideological, social and economical context through the History, Study of the interrelation  between Arab and Western civilizations and its impact on the urban fundamentals of the modern Arab city, Classification of Cities, Urban fabric with its elements and characteristics, Infra-structure problems and design criteria for Palestinian rural and  urban areas.
Design studio concentrating urban issues.

Prerequisite: Architecture 433.
 

ENAR 451   Design 5 (5-1-12)

Integration between architectural design and environmental systems, construction systems and materials and working details.
Design studio on large scale complex projects, emphasizing different aspects such as: building regulations, electro-mechanical and sanitary systems, handicapped needs ...etc.

Prerequisite: Architecture 342.
 

ENAR 520   Introduction to Graduation Project (2-0-2)

Project selection is based on the real needs of local society, Data gathering, site selection and site analysis with the guidance and approval of a faculty member in order to prepare a comprehensive research document that serves as design program for the course ENAR 530.

Prerequisite: Architecture 401 + The Semester Prior To Graduation.
 

ENAR 530  Graduation Project (3-0-9)

Individual resolution of the graduation project defined and programmed in course ENAR 520, Development of comprehensive design proposal involving all parameters of architectural design. The final presentation consists of of a complete set of drawings, model and written report. The work is prepared under the supervision of a faculty member, and is presented in a formal public jury.

Rrerequisite: Architecture 520 & 551 OR 553.
 

ENAR 531  Theories of Architecture 3 (3-3-0)

Architectural identity in Palestine and the problem of modernity since the rise of modern architecture in the twentieth century; A comprehensive analysis of the historical, political, cultural, social, economical and technical factors that determine the modern architectural movement in Palestine.

The purpose of this course is to integrate architectural education with community development. The students will deal with a real project which objects are to upgrade  certain residential and living environment in cooperation with the local community developing and applying adequate designing means.

Detailed survey of basic GIS principles and their use to solve urban design, landscaping, planning and restoration problems, Applications on different computer software programs available in this field.

A study of a selected problem in the field of architectural design under the supervision of a faculty member. Each student must complete a final written report with drawings and slides.

Art perception through historical survey and development of painting, sculpture, architecture and the minor arts from prehistory to the present time, The interaction of art trends through the ages that led to the emergence of significant regional styles including Palestinian and Arab art.

A study emphasizing on the problem of contemporary trends in architecture, Analysis of the basic trends in the architectural thought at the end of the 20th century, emphasizing the contemporary Arab architecture.
Studio design of comprehensive project/projects that deal with the problem of modernity in Arab architecture and the impact of the modern technology on design methodology.

ENAR 553     Advanced Urban Design (5-1-12)

A study emphasizing the philosophy and fundamentals of architecture, Analysis of the basic trends in the architectural thought., Elements of urban design and its decisive factors, Urban style and individuality. Studio design of comprehensive project/projects that deal with the problem of harmony with the existing urban identity and structures, The impact of philosophical, functional, social, economical and aesthetically factors on urban design.
