Description:

The Club in Khan Yunis Camp is a joint project set up in 1992 between the five Women's Committees in the Gaza Strip and Enfants Refugies du Monde (ERM). The Center provides an environment for children to develop their cognitive and creative abilities and is open all year to children between the ages of 6 and 12, providing leisure and remedial activities during the summer holidays and the school year. The present space and staff allow for 250 children. Active learning is used in all the activities. The 11 educators/community workers of the Center have just completed a three-year training program organized by ERM.

Remedial work is organized in cooperation with UNRWA schools around the Center. The objectives of these sessions are to help the children complete the acquisition of school basics; to encourage children's responsibility and participation in their own learning process through play or recreational sessions; and to enable the children to reintegrate themselves into the school regimen. The Center also works with teachers to follow up on individual children, and on new methods the teachers might wish to apply in class. New activities include the integration of handicapped children into the program, a child-to-child tutoring project, and a nature awareness corner with a garden and livestock.

A new branch was opened in Khan Yunis in 1993 for teenagers between the ages of 12 and 16. This club, called Nadi Bunat al-Ghad (Builders of Tomorrow) offers music, arts and cultural activities, sports and games. The youngsters are largely responsible for the administration of the club, which attracts around 100 boys and 30 girls.

Administrative Structure:

The Club has a Director, an Assistant and a Social Researcher in addition to 11 full-time educators.
