Description

Founded in 1986, EAI aims to transform indigenous teaching methodology and curriculum in seven West Bank schools from a traditional, non-interactive approach into one that has personal and national relevance, and that is based on the students' active participation, self-reliance, internal motivation and individual problem-solving. The goals of the project are being achieved through several activities in over 30 West Bank schools (including the five Lutheran schools) offering in-service training courses to teachers, principals and other staff members; and through initiating innovative projects such as vocational education, career counseling, a work experience program and social awareness and societal development classes. EAI is also developing a curriculum relevant to Palestinian needs and aspirations, and has an environmental project, 'Children for the Protection of Nature' aimed at increasing children's awareness and appreciation of their environment and their interest in its conservation, accompanied by a series of posters. EAI encourages community involvement in education.

Administrative Structure

Joint project between the Lutheran School System and Bir Zeit University and has a Supervisory Committee of five members, including the school director and four prominent educators from the area, an Executive Committee of three and a consultant.
