The challenges Palestinians face in repairing the health care system are great. Occupation has caused severe damages and a deterioration of the system as a whole. With the dawn of a new political arrangement, the health sector is faced with the challenge of reconstruction and rehabilitation. One of the areas that needs most attention is human resource development.
The post-graduate diploma was launched by Birzeit University Department of Public and Community Health in response to the needs of the medical and health care community, needs identified through a recent needs-assessment study conducted by the Department. Among the major findings of the study was the need to train physicians and nurses to function as supervisors and trainers in an integrated primary health care model. This integrated approach, combined with developed training and supervisory skills will improve the overall quality of health care delivery and render the health care system greater efficiency and effectiveness.
