Birzeit, 6 March , 2000
At around 9pm last night, the announcement was made that all students imprisoned since the events following the visit of French Prime Minister, Lionel Jospin to Birzeit University were to be released unconditionally.

The freed students arrived in Ramallah and from there travelled to the University where hundreds of students, staff and families of the released were waiting to greet them. Carried on the shoulders of their colleagues, the students entered the cafeteria where they were met with cries of "Birzeit! Birzeit! Birzeit!" and, "From Birzeit to Beirut we are one people!".

Student leaders from all political blocs addressed the crowd as hugs were exchanged with the released students. Students on hunger strike ended their strike jubilantly and students talked and sang until the early morning.
