Al-Haq Calls For The Investigation of an Unlawful Killing

Today, Wednesday 11 July, Rasmiya Juda Mohammed Hussein Subh was shot dead by members of the Israeli security forces. According to Al-Haq’s field investigation, Ms. Subh, who worked at a turkey-processing factory in Kiryat Malachi in Israel, caught a service (Ford transit van) near a road bloc between the Israeli town of Beersheba and Dahariya in the West Bank with seven other female workers. The women, all from the West Bank, take this route daily to their work in Israel.

While travelling near the Israeli town of Hora, an Israeli military jeep followed the Taxi and opened fire. Subh was hit in the head and died shortly afterwards. I’rtdel Ahmed Salameh Jabareen, one of the women in the van, gave the following testimony to al-Haq:

“At 5:30 a.m. today, July 11, I was travelling in a Ford transit van with other colleagues. We all work together in the same factory. When our taxi was near Hora I saw an Israeli military jeep follow our van. I then heard shooting and saw the soldiers shooting out the jeep windows at our van. I saw blood streaming from Rasmiya’s head. I spoke to her but there was no response. I touched her and she then fell to the floor. I saw a bullet wound in her head. She was dead.
Rasmiya was then taken to Soroka hospital in Beersheba. I gave a statement to the Israeli police.”

According to al-haq’s account of the incident there was no warning given before shots were fired from the jeep and the van could have been stopped by other means other than by indiscriminate shooting.

Al-haq calls on the Israeli government
· To launch an investigation into the incident
· To punish those responsible
· To pay compensation to the family of Ms. Subh.

Ms. Subh was 39 years of age; a divorcee and a mother two children aged 12 and 18. She had worked at the Turkey processing factory for four years.
