July & August 1999 Guest List

Let us not forget the purpose for the Ferderation. It is not a political organization but a social and cultural one that brings the Ramallah people closer as one FAMILY. Take a look at the history section on this website and you will see no statement of politics. Let us go to Orlando not to divide our people but to be one Family and celebrate the men and women who work hard to keep our family UNITED.

I agree 100% with Jamal's statement. We Palestinians in America have become way to Americanized and liberal and to me, alot of people have lost interest as well as respect for their great Palestinian and Arabic backgrounds. To me, Palestine comes before America even though I was born here and the interests of the Arab people should come before anything. Alot of people voiced their anger and protested against the recent Burger King issue in Israel (occupied Palestine) so we should be smart and use this as a model to voice simmilar anger and concerns about all of the Jewish settlements and activities against Arabs in general. I am sick and tired of various Arab-American organizations that want to be very politically correct and nice when voicing their concerns and frustrations. I really admire James Zogby, George Salem, and others who are seen in the media representing Arab concerns, but they are not being forceful and vocal enough in confronting the people that are talking with them; people that are very much against Palestinian and Arab interests! We Arabs have nothing to hide and the entire world knows that we are fighting a just cause and that we won't stop until we get what we want. Hopefully, all of you that care about Palestine and Arab interests in general will read this carefully and understand what was said.......

re: protest at disney. if afrp wants to be *just* a social club/organization, then that would be fine in as far as it does not negatively contribute to the palestinian political struggle. the old adage that "culture is politics" can never be overstated. afrp has a repsonsibility towards the 'p' in afrp and that is palestine and its national interest *must* come first. let's not fool oursleves into apathy (disney is too big, we can't change anything), or spiral ourselves further into defeat (we're a small organization, embattled group of people, that just want to be left alone). if you do not want to get involved into the politics of palestine, realize, please, that your actions have an effect on the future of palestine. if we are to err as an organization, as a people, as a country, it should not be at the expense of jerusalem. we can never be too protective or too cautious about jerusalem. jerusalem is not a stock that you can sell or buy on the new york stock exchange. if we are not cautious and careful in preserving jerusalem as arab and palestinian, then there will be very little left that is worth fighting for. there's no palestine without arab jerusalem. afrp: being in disney, silent, celebrating jerualem-israel, you are being political -- where do you stand?

in response to the messages involving Disney- i think we should enjoy the convention for what it is- a time of fellowship - and leave all the publicity with disney out of it. by all means- if you have a problem with what disney is doing- bring it up to whoever but i dont believe the convention or the hotel should have anything to do with it. its a time of celebration with each other- not a time to picket with one of the largest corporations.

I agree with Nabella Shunnarah, we should do something to Disney while we are in Orlando. I suggest if the Federation has guts to hold a protest at the hotel (which I believe is inside Disney gorunds) and have them either bring someone from Disney Board of Directors to speak to us or kick us out of the Hotel using police or security to drag each one of us. I think 3,000 people holding a protest inside Disney will bring lots of Publicity, and maybe a re-thinking of the position they are presently taking.

Glad everyone had a good time in cleveland. Nexy year is going to be awesome. I've been to Florida lots of times and it is sooooooooooooooooooo beautiful.(Believe me I am moving there) Orlando has lots of stuff to do and if u go down there stop in Miami and u could see a few stars and lots of Mercedes. Also, anyone from Cleveland better come to the St. Elias Middle East Festival. It's always fun and the Debka group will rock the floor with some sweet moves once again.

In regards to Nabella Shunnarah's comments about initiating protests against Disney and posting leaflets, I would like to make a few comments. One of the main reasons that Disney is so called "anti-Arab" is because its CEO, Michael Eisner, and many of its other executives are Jewish. Its going to be very difficult to change their views, especially through the use of posting leaflets. Disney is one of the largest companies in the world and posting leaflets is not going to put a damper into their business. Im not suggesting that you leave this issue alone, all I am saying that another approach to this matter would be effective. Maybe some of the fellow Arabs who visit this site could suggest some ideas... Peace!

Sunny D, CA USA - Wednesday, August 11, 1999 at 00:37:12 (PDT)

Hi to all future conventioneers! I just want to remind all of you about Disney's continued disdain for Arabs. Disney is planning to erect a new attraction advocating that the city of Jerusalem be made the capital of Israel. Keep this is mind while we are in Orlando, funding Disney anti-Arab tactics. Disney, according to the ADC, is the only entity that has blatantly refused to cooperate with ADC in its practice of portraying Arabs as shady characters in popular films. And now Disney is using The Mouse to promote making Jerusalem the capital of Israel. I think we should make leaflets opposing this tactic and place them in strategic places while we are touring the city and the park next convention. Also, a letter writing campaign could make a difference. Salaam to all.

Hello and marhaba to all Ramallah people and Arab people all across the US and around the world. The Palestinian state is coming soon and we all should be preparing for it by investing our money, our time, and our expertise to help it succeed. It will never succeed if Palestinians (here in America or in other places of the world) ignore it and don't care about it. We must all do our part in making sure Palestine becomes an economically and politically strong state. Invest in the Palestinian stock market or go and start a technology-based business over there that will make money for you and at the same time, modernize the civil infrastructure. We Arabs have alot of money all around the world, but it has not been used properly for the benefit of our countries. By the way, another way that you could contribute to the eventual state of Palestine without investing money would be to go and invest your skills and academic background to help in the rebuilding and improvments that are currently going on. Lets make Palestine into what it should be: the Hong Kong of the Middle East!!

I would like to pose a suggestion for future convention planners to think about. I think it would be interesting and beneficial to include some informative items during the days of the convention. There is a lot of time to do these things. For example, I think it is important for us (both those that go back to Palestine and those who don't) to have a sit in on Ramallah. This could include pictures, stories, discussions and most importantly elders who lived their to share their experiences. Some other things may include, seminars on investing in Ramallah, group trips to ramallah, news events in Ramallah and the politics of the Middle East. These things could teach people about things they should know as well as allow us to be more active in the community. I think some of these ideas could be discussed here more. We should use this area as a forum for ideas for future efforts with conventions as well as Ramallah. Let's face it, conventions are fun and great, but we would not have any conventions if it were not for Ramallah.

I am a 14 year old boy who lives in Atlanta. I am originally from Ramallah. I am the son of Issa N. Ackall. I was very impressed when I looked at the website. My father was very fascinated with the site. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

HELLO TO ALL MY RELATIVES! I just wanted to say that Cleveland was fun! I think that Chicago was one of the main reasons that the convention was a blast!! Also lets try to keep this guestbook clean, so as to stop ruining our image as educated Arab-Amaticans.

I just want to thank all the people that are working hard at making this a clean and informational site. Without it, it would be hard to see what is going on in our arab life. This will effect the young and the old, especialy our childern ( Which I am a proud father of three boys), I want them to understand the true meaning of Palestine and the history of it as well. With the help of all of you it will work. " Lets keep it clean". Your Brother Victor Misleh

I love you, my brother, whoever you are -- whether you worship in your church, kneel in your temple, or pray in your mosque. You and I are all children of one faith, for the divers paths of religion are fingers of the loving hand of one Supreme Being, a hand extended to all , offering completeness of spirit to all, eager to receive all.
