Think about all of the books you have read on the holocaust
while in school. Do you think this was a coincidence? It is
strategic & guarantees generations of Americans whom respect
and appreciate Jewish culture & history. Most Americans are
ignorant of Palestine/Arab history & culture. This is where
we begin. We are looking for individuals whom are interested in
giving their advice/ opinion to the public school system on
changing the curriculum to include Palestine & Arabs in
general. PLEASE EMAIL OR CALL ASAP. If live in the DC/MD/VA area

ADC Press Release: American Views on Israeli-Palestinian
Issues: A Public Opinion Survey Washington, DC, August 29 -- The
American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) commissioned
Zogby International to conduct a public opinion survey of
American voters nationwide to determine current public attitudes
regarding the situation in Palestine. The calls to 1,007 likely
voters nationwide were made from Zogby International headquarters
in Utica, New York between July 5th and July 15th, 2001. The
margin of error is +/-3.2 %. The results of the survey point
to.the following general trends: While support for Palestinian
statehood has increased over the past ten years, Palestinians
continue to be viewed unfavorably by American voters. However,
Palestinians are viewed much more favorably than the Palestinian
Authority or Yasser Arafat. Despite the elaborate public
relations campaign by Israel and its supporters in the US over
the past 11 months, American public opinion has not shifted
radically one way or the other as a result of this campaign and
the biased media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It
is quite clear that the Palestinian narrative is neither known
nor appreciated by a large sector of the American public. For
most Americans, the Israeli version still defines the conflict in
the Middle East. Why Israelis are viewed favorably by a majority
of Americans, the Israeli government is not viewed as favorably.
By the same token, the Palestinian Authority is viewed quite
negatively; American opinion is divided on the Palestinians. An
overwhelming majority of Americans support the Palestinian right
to independent statehood and see the Palestinians as the equal
people entitled to full rights as the Israelis. American support
for the Palestinians increases when the issue is presented in
purely humanitarian terms. Conversely, support for the
Palestinians tends to decrease when the issue is presented in
legal, religious or historical terms. A plurality of American
voters agrees that the Palestinians rejected the Israeli offer at
Camp David because it failed to provide them with freedom of
movement and contiguous land capable of producing a viable state.
American sub-groups who are inclined to support the Palestinians
include the Democrats, liberals, Catholics, Hispanics and
African-Americans. More than three-quarters of U.S. voters
generally blame both Israelis and Palestinians for the breakdown
of the Middle East peace process. KEY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FROM
THE SURVEY: Do you agree or disagree that there should be an
independent Palestinian state? Agree 73% Disagree 12% Not sure
15% Do you agree or disagree that Israelis and Palestinians are
equal people entitled to equal rights? Agree 96% Disagree 3% Not

made the Palestinians a generous offer for peace but the
Palestinians rejected. The offer included more than 90% of the
West Bank plus Palestinians neighborhoods in Jerusalem. Israel

settlers. 44% - the Palestinians rejected the Israeli offer
because it left them with separate parcels of land that could not
form a viable state. The offer did not provide them with freedom
of movement or freedom to conduct commerce. The Palestinians were
also denied the right of return and sovereign control over their
natural resources. 29% - Not sure. 4. Generally speaking, whom do

Hello. To the people asking about the mid year convention,
it is always in Detroit around March, for various reasons, mainly
b/c that is where the AFRP's main chapter is located, and they
usually get a nice turnout. For some convention pictures visit

I don't feel as if the cities are in competition, although
at times there can be petty, insignificant bickering on this
website, when push comes to shove, no one is in competition. We
all support each other equally and work as a whole rather than as
separate standing cities when the Federation is involved. Yes
Jacksonville put on a great convention, BUT saying it was the
best convention yet is just an opinion, not a fact. Fadi Shamieh
was stating a FACT, there was an 1100 count turnout at the
Sireyeh, and that IS indeed impressive. Snaps to you guys!
Although I don't think he was being boastful, just proud of being
a member of the Ramallah club of San Francisco for advertising
efficiently and successfully and proving that their city is a
supportive one. Reminder--the guestbook is a format for
expressions and opinion. If you can't take criticsm or if you
can't handle others opinions, then this website is not designed
for you. Thanks-Miranda

This person who seems to remains hidden, you like to jump
to conclusions dont you? I wasnt telling the web site about the
crowd to be comptetative, I was telling them because we had some
many people SUPPORT the group, and tell the wbsite that SF did a
good job raising all that money, and brining in the crowd that it
brought in. It has nothing to do with competion. I am stating the
facts, it was the largest sell out, dont get mad because I state
facts. Also dont talk to me about the schooling, and support for
the people back home because if you had ANY idea on who I was and
what I do, I do so much more then probably you would do to
support the people backhome, and am trying to make a difference,
unlike most of the people. SO please know the facts before you
speak, thank you

I have been reading the guestbook for the past couple of
weeks and I have enjoyed what many of you have said and agree
with many of the comments. However, I have noticed that some of
the participants of this guestbook make comments that suggest
each city is in a competition. I recall one person stating that
"Jacksonville had the best convention" or "we had
a sell out crowd of 1100 people with the largest turnout of all
the cities involved." This is absolutely rediculous, did
that person who mentioned the "crowd of 1100" ever take
into consideration the amount of arabs in each city before making
that comment. Some cities have a higher percentage of arabs and
are therefore naturally going to have a higher turn out at these
events. Reading some of the comments on this guestbook makes me
question the American schooling system. We should not be
concerned about competing with other cities or who had the best
convention or the largest turnout. We should be concerned about
the current situation of the Palestinian struggle and determine
steps to improve that situation for our children and their
children.

Melbourne Vic 3051 Australia Tel (613) 93297671 Email
mustafatanta@hotmail.com Dear Editor, Please I am writing to ask
for your assistance in a problem my family and I are having
concerning the Egyptian Consulate in Melbourne, Australia. In
December 1982 my wife and I were planning a holiday with our
daughters to Egypt to visit our family. The Egyptian
Consul-General, Mr. Amhed Mohamed El Mesiry, Who offered us money
to carry two suitcases to Egypt for him, approached us. He tried
to force us to do this. The Consul in Melbourne, Mr. Farouk El
Houfy, Advised us not to carry the suitcases if we didn’t
know what was inside. My uncle Mr.Hamed ghanim in Egypt, who was
an Officer Colonel in the Egyptian Army, gave us the same advice.
The Egyptian Consul-General then accused my wife, myself, and my
uncle of spying for Australia against Egypt. The Egyptian
security forces put pressure and intimidation on my uncle and his
family until he died. Here in Australia we discovered that we
were being followed until I contacted the Australian Minister for
Police in Melbourne. My life was threatened and I was
hospitalized for 2 weeks, after which time we returned to Egypt.
This issue has been publicized in the newspaper in Australia in
January 2001. But despite having written to the Egyptian Foreign
Minister And to President Hosni Mobark in Egypt, We have received
no reply. We are appealing to you for help in this most serious
problem. We have only written briefly here of the problem. We
have documents and witnesses to support our story, And we hope
you will take the time, with this matter. Yours sincerely, Mr.
and Mrs. Mustafa Bekhit

I am just posting this because of the recent bombing in
Palestine and I think its a site that offers a wide variety of
different articles supporting the peace movement. There are two
sites: one is a site of world wide Jews that support the right of
a Palestinian homeland. They discuss how Palestinians are being
persecuted for defending what was once theirs. There were recent
protest by Jews in London on Kensington Plaza raging that the
violence end and Palestinians be given the homeland they deserve.
http://www.redress.btinternet.co.uk/ Second, a recent movement in
Britain's House of Commons to boycott all Israeli products, stop
all trades between Israel and major business in Europe, and stop
trade agreements with the European Union and British governments
until Israel suspends building settlements and withdrawals from
all Palestinian held land and for the unbearable human right
violations by the Israeli State to stop. This can be seen at
http://www.redress.btinternet.co.uk/boycott2.htm and this site
http://www.palestinecampaign.org/ Hope you all enjoy the info.

This goes to Boulos from Hollywood USA. Ive been going to
conventions on and off for years. Just because you're in love
doesn't mean you have to stop going to the conventions.
Conventions are not specifically designed to meet spouses! They
are designed for all families to come together and raise money
for ones that are not so fortunate. Of course, it's an added plus
if you meet someone and it turns into something permanent;
however, I go to have fun and meet new friends. There are lots of
married couples that enjoy it as well.

Well, I just wanted to comment about the raffle. My dad
bought raffle tickets and I wanted to win the Toyota Celica. Of
course, I didn't win anything. I remember the person who was
calling the people said that it was a stripped car and not to
expensive so take the $10,000. This is not true. I am a car
expert. Anything you ask me about cars, I will know it. I am 12
years old, 6'1'' and if u don't know me with that info then oh
well. A Toyota Celica GT-S has a base price of $21,445. It has
180 horsepower and is almost fully loaded. The only options you
need on the car are (if you are older) an automatic transmission
and a sunroof. All in all, the celica is a much better prize,
even with tax and license fees. Ok, all I wanna know is what did
the person who won choose, The $10000 or $23000 Celica? -Peace
out, Ace

Hello everyone and hope you all had a good time at the
convention. One comment I want to make and it is directed towards
a Paul from MI. the boat cruise was 70 dollars a head and in my
opinion well worth it. And it is not my place to tell you how
much it was to rent that yacht. It was not a boat first and far
most it was a yacht. A boat is what you all rented in MI. but
that3s besides the point cause I did have a good time in Detroit.
My point is if you knew how much it was to rent, and then I don3t
think you would be complaining! And as for Level Up, it also cost
an arm and a leg to rent the San Francisco Galleria design
center. (Whichever single person I have spoke to said they had a
wonderful time, excluding the last half hour, which I didn3t
agree with either) organizing 4,000 people in 4 days and wanting
everyone to say it was perfect and wonderful and well organized
is no way possible! But people that understand and have done this
before and have put as much effort into it know what I am talking
about. A couple people have stated things about the way girls
were dressing. Now, it may not be my place to say anything,
(cause really I didn3t pay attention) but I grew up here and I am
very in tune with my culture. If you want to dress with half of
your body showing your belly button piercing and other ways of
dressing that you know people are going to look at and talk
about, don't do it at a Ramallah convention. You want to go out
on a Friday night and dress that way more power to you, but not
in front of all the amos and aunties and tatas and sedos! I'm not
just defending San Francisco cause I am from here that has
nothing to do with it. But you have to look at all aspects. The
play was wonderful, the family feud was hilarious (and from my
understanding, people want to continue this family feud
tradition), the debate, the heflat, the food, the meetings, the
buses, the yacht, the level-up, and the other events were mostly
all sold out. The person who stated something about Vaseline, you
need to clean up your mouth, this is a cultural web page and we
don3t need to hear your vulgarity. You could have stated your
complaints differently and more tasteful! The person who stated
something about the security letting their friends in, let me
tell you something, I was on security, and I paid for every
single event just like you. And I don3t appreciate you saying
that. I am no different from everyone else and if they all had to
pay there is no reason why I should not have to pay. I am no
different. The people that got in (and I am not disagreeing with
you in the aspect of people getting in with out paying, but they
snuck in.) But that is inevitable at these big events. I hope no
one takes offense to what I said. But rather than complaining,
lets hear things like oh my god look how many people attended! Or
look how many happy healthy people have all somehow descended
from Ramallah. Do you all know how darn lucky we are? We are the
largest family reunion that takes place every single year. That
is something to be proud of. And I am the first person to be
proud of it! I don3t care what girls were wearing, I don3t care
if people drank, I3m just happy when all of our people are under
one roof and celebrating how much we miss each other when we
don3t see each other for a long time! Just always know that
people are going to talk and there is a time and place for
everything! Love you all, and god bless you all. Good luck in
Chicago next year and if anyone wants to email me you are more
than welcome to! Thank you for taking time to read this, and San
Francisco people, (you know who you are) we all worked very hard
and we should all be very proud of each other!

I thought that the Convention in SF went really well!! I'm
not tied in too close with the SF Chapter but I still think they
tried really hard to put on a good convention, and a supberb
convention it turned out to be. I agree with Ronnie from San
Diego, I think they should have included those aged 18 to 20 in
some of the events because it left some people out. I wanted to
attend more political/cultural events but i knew before i
registered that this was going to be a big get together. I think
for future reference, more debates is a good thing. I enjoyed the
entire panel and the insight from some of the people was quite
beneficial. I got the chance to meet a lot of different
people.....I didn't know that there were such large amounds of
arabs in kentucky, Michigan, and Texas!!! Anyways, I think
overall, despite high prices...we avoided rolling black outs, got
to know each other a little better and raised money for those
suffering back home and isn't that what it's all about??? I hope
in Chicago we can focus a little more on what Palestinians can do
to help educate those around them about whats going on back home.
More events like the debate are definately needed!!! In regards
to some peoples complaints....there is drama in every city,
everywhere, every culture...you can't avoid it..so just sit back
and watch it unfold. I do agree, however, that more security
could have been helpful. I hope by next year we have made more
progress in the critical situation back home. I don't know about
all of you, but parties and haflehs, felt kind of wrong when I
knew that little kids were being killed back home, despite the
fact that I knew proceeds would go there. Ok i've taken up enough
room....SF CHAPTER DID A GREAT JOB!!!

This is in response to SB from Houston, TX. I beg to differ
with you, but the Orlando convention WAS one of the best in a
long time. There were more people in attendance(including
registered guests) than any convention in many years past and to
come. Registration in Orlando was very organized and very well
put together. You didn't have to wait until the next day to
receive your badge, ad book and tickets. Also, everyone was
friendly and helpful which is called that good ole Southern
Hospitality. As far as what SB said about the fights and
such...unfortunately, that happens with every culture. Some
people...young and old alike.......don't know how to handle their
liquor! Anyway, good luck for a wonderful convention in Chicago!

As a married 41 year old (to a wonderful Ramallah girl I
might add, father of 4 boys, and having attended over twenty
conventions (5 in SF/San Jose) in my life I had to laugh when I
read all the guestbook comments since the convention. Ramallah
people have been saying the same things for over 40 years. Yes,
kids drink to much, they fight, the boys are rude to girls, and
the girls dress to kill, but so what. The real point is that an
event happened that is the most unique in the world. We should
thank God for our Palestinian Heritage, work like dogs to
preserve it, and give credit to all the people to attended the SF
convention. My only hope and I'll fight for it for my whole life
is that in 2059, I'll be still alive to see my grandchildren at
the 100th Convention (In Detroit, of course) and that I can drink
to their health and tell them about my most recent visit to
Ramallah. The grass is always greener on the otherside, let's not
forget what we have.

Hi , I would just like to comment about the convention this
year. I really thought the convention was nice and fun. come on
no place beats SF. but anyhow, i was really hoping the convention
would be more cultural like, but instead there was boat crusies,
the level up party? not to palestinian i believe? the only arab
thing that was going on was the excellent play and the debate.
now i didnt know conventions were all about partyin , girls, and
drinken sooo much? to me it seemed like a big american thing
happening.. conventions should be about getting together with
your people , learning about the culture, you know nice
traditional arabic stuff, that some people have seemed to forget?
it really bothers me that people were too worried about all the
wrong doing at the convention and not worry a whole lot about
where you people are from and the problems that are going there?
tell me whats more important? your falesteen, or what happen at
the convention? people please dont forget who you are and where
you are from. Now i really would like to know how much money went
to falesteen?

inappropriate. I have attended many, many years of conventions

Hard work goes into planning any event and the workers should

whats up folks! This years convention was one of the most
successful convention ever. It was full of wonderful events and
from what I understand this convention raised the most money for
the federation in convention history. As for the people who
complained about the prices they should be ashamed of themselves,
any money raised by the convention goes to a good cause, also we
have to keep in mind that san francisco is an expensive city.
There is an old saying, "you pay for what you get" and
from my experience we got it! Our Beautiful ladies should be
respected for who they are rather than looked down upon for what
they wear. We look forward to seeing you folks in "Chi

Marhaba everyone!! I just wanted to say that S.F. put on a
good convention and that i had a wonderful time and met a lot of
great people from all over! but besides all the good, there were
some things i didn't like at all, for instance a whole lot of u
guys are all sayin the prices were high or u had fun, or
whatever, i think everyone should stop worrying about all that
because this is not what a convention is about. A convention is
about all of the Ramallah communtity coming together from all
over and uniting together as one big family. We are all supposed
to have each other's backs and be there for one another but
instead we wanna act all tough and try to break out and fight
people of our own race!! How does that make u feel when u see
arab on arab crime? with that in mind, why do u think all those
damn yahoodi (jews) are all killin our people and we don't have
shit to defend ourselves with? because no one knows how to get
along in this world!! and that is sad! but i don't want anyone to
take offense to what i am saying, i am just giving advise and
facts out to those of u who are not aware. and also, about
everyone talkin bout the looks of the youth about how they dress
and their appearance...guess what people, we are living in the
21st century, GET OVER IT!! i mean ok yeah SOME PEOPLE can get
carried away but thats their own fault, let them look like a
hoochie, its their reps, not necessarily ours. And everyone is
just going along with the look in today's society, this is how it
is so just learn to deal with it, and if u can't then don't worry
bout it, juss plain and simple GET OVER IT! I also wanted to
mention, all conventions are fun, but hey Florida sorry to bust
ur bubble, but u weren't the best, i heard a lot about u guys
too, thats a whole other story there, but HOUSTON, TEXAS was the
best convention, it was well organized, and MANY MANY MANY people
attended it, we had a good debka group, (which i was in) and we
had a good childrens choir for banquet as well. Ok well to wrap
my lil essay up...lol...i would juss like to say thank u S.F. for
a good time and all of u gripin and everything, put a sock in it
cause no one wants to hear ur complaints, if u ain't got nothing
good to say then don't say nothing at all! Everyone else sayin
good things, Keep on talkin, its good to hear from the people who
have something worth reading. Thanks for your time and can't wait
till chicago!! take care everyone and God Bless!!

I was quite disturbed to read about all the negativity
concerning the SF 2001 Convention. San Francisco put on a great
all-around show with an intense effort from many individuals. If
you could not appreciate a bay cruise with a packed dance floor
and awesome music or a fine performance at the Palace of Fine
Arts or even an elegant night out at Level Up, then I would love
to see what your version of fun really is because if these events
plus more were not entertaining then you might as well stay at
home. For all those that did not have a great time, then maybe we
should have passed out a complimentary bottle of vaseline (like
the gentleman from Detroit stated) because you did get screwed
yet not from the San Francisco 2001 Convention but from yourself
because we provided every opportunity for a remarkable time! Free
Palestine.

to add to the comments about the convention, just because
there are a few bad seeds in the bunch, that does not make the
convention terrible. there are a few bad seeds at every
convention, this was not different. and while everybody knows
that the west coast is different from the midwest and the
southern states, i do think some of the actions by certain people
were a little overboard. when married couples, adults, and highly
educated people get drunk and act immaturely, then something is
wrong. those are not the infulences most people want their
children to see. adults should act like adults and set a good
example. if you want to get drunk and act stupid, don't do it at
the convention. i'm not saying to act all innocent at the
convenion, i'm just saying to act responsibly in front of
teen-agers and pre-teens who are very easily influenced. the so
called adults at this convention were a disappointment. please,
next year, act like adults - drink in moderation. don't get
stupid drunk in front of our youth because when you have kids one
day, you will not want your kids to witness such nonsense from
those who claim to be adults.

Personally we all had a good time in SF and you all know
it... Come on guys, conventions are all the same and we know what
to expect everytime we go.. It's the same thing every yr just in
a different state... Don't go off on the people who worked all
year to make it good and make them feel like crap for no reason..
If you didn't like it or didn't have fun keep your comments to
yourself. Conventions are what you make it out to be, and if you
wanna have a good time you WILL.. You can't sit there and compare
this convention to Florida's, b/c everyone has their own
opinion.. Of course everyone was going to have fun up in disney,
who wouldn't.. SF thanks for the good time we ALL had and for
those of you who act like you didn't have fun or the prices were
too high, than maybe you should consider not going next time...
Fadi, good job babe thanks for being such a gentlemen everytime
you would see one of us out of towners.. On behalf of 2 detroit
girls, we're sorry if any rude comments were made towards the
girls in SF... To everyone we met, we miss you all see ya next
yr.. To Lora, Theresa, Jerry, Maher, Laureen, Richie, Lauren,
Amerah & everyone else we chilled with thanks for the GOOD
time we all had in SF!!!! And YES a GOOD time believe it or
not....

The saying "it's what u make of it" is a saying
that best fits every convention, not just California. Just
because everyone doesn't get their way that doesn't mean people
have to leave their rude and ignorant comments putting other
people's hard work down. I think California tryed their hardest
to out on a good convention and in some ways they were very
successful. For those of u who want to compare conventions, from
what I know Florida wasn't all that either. The Florida
convention committee basically relied on the state's tour
attractions to entertain there out of town guest which isn't all
that smart either. Conventions are not about the state u live in.
They are about bringing family and friends together and
representing a place we are all proud to come from. I'm very
proud to see the young adults and youth active in the conventions
these days. But what I want to see is the youth and young adults
learning about where they come from and going to the convention
with the knowledge of the struggle we have gone through to get
where we are today.I know the prices in California where high,
but so are prices in other states. No matter where u go to a
covention no everyone is going to be satisfied but it's what u
make of that trip that is going to satisfy u. To me just hangin
out in the lobby til morning with my friends I only get to see at
the convention is enough fun for me. I don't want to sit here and
tell people how to think or react to these convnetion. I jut wish

everything seemed pretty well organized. It just seemed like
there wasn't much to do unless you were 21...well i just wanna
say HEYYY to all of Ramallah's Finest, and to everyone i met in

Just want to comment on the things people were saying about
the convention. Every all knows we are the most expensive state
to live in, and prices are high. If you all were complaining
about the prices, why did you all attend the parties and the
Level Up, if you thought they were so high you should nt of came.
As for the figthing I agree with you all, that was a bit childish
but this is what happens when alcohol is in your system, no knows
how to control themselves, I apoligize on their behalf. I thought
we put on a good show, and it was entertaining to everyone. You
all have to forget about the little things that happend, and look
at it as a hole, I am sure if non of this happend you ALL would
of loved S.F. As for the girls that were dressed DOWN, that was
shameful, but what are we gonna do about it, we just have to look
at the big picture as a whole and say what a great convention
that was. S.F. all worked very hard to run the show, and make is
successful one for all of you, and to hear that people did not
like it is very disappointing, I was the co-chairperson for the
young adults, and the main role in the play incase you guys dont
know who I am, and I thought we put on a nice convention WAY
better then Orlando. Thank you

All the people who commented about how horrible SF was as a
host state, have obviosly never tried planning an event this
size. I agree with the fact that at times it was disorganized,
yet when has an arabic function ever been completely organized??
That is the beauty of it, we are very relaxed and just go with
the flow! About the tasteless comments made about the girls and
what they wear, People get over it!! We are in the 21st century!
The best part about living in San Francisco or any other
metropoliten city is that we are able to be free and are able to
expres ourselves. Just because someone dresses in a way that you
might not particulary agree with , you do not have the right to
talk badly about your fellow family memeber! Because when it
comes down to it we are all related, REMEMBER??!!!! Therfore if
you speak badly about these people then you are speaking badly
about yourself!! And on a final note, People seem to complain
about the prices of everything yet, everyone received a
registration package with all prices included. And for the person
who claims that the cost of living has nothing to do with the
prices of the convention, then you obviously do not live in a big
city!! Try planning any event in San Francisco and see how much
it will cost you!! It is not quantity it is Quality and San
Francisco has it all, if you pay the price! I can understand how
one might feel Being that it is costly, but then again i don't
remember anyone pulling anyone's arm to go. Those events ( boat
cruise & Level up) were optional and held so that you could
have the opportunity to see the City! I think we paid what we had
to considering we were in San Francisco ! We should have given
you the Real SF experience and had the convention in a downtown
hotel and made everyone take a cab!! Ha HA!! Talk about
expensive, you haven't seen anything yet!! All i have to say is
that there is good and bad in every convention and to base it on
a few individuals who can't hold their liquor, that is not fair!!
If i do recall in last year's convention we did have those token
alchoholic's who ruined it for some people as well! Instead of
insulting all the people who worked many long hard hours we
really should thank them for all their efforts!! If you really do
still feel stongly about your opinions then turn all of your
negative vibes into constuctive criticism. Maybe if we suggest
something ,instead of attacking, then we are one step closer to
conquering! Mom i guess your right! She always told me that if
you don't have anything nice to say then don't say it all !!! I
am just waiting for the day when we will all be able to come
together and have fun without being judged or critized! God bless
you all.............

If I just got through working my @$$ off for a year to put
on a big convention, and there were people blaming me and my
community for things beyond my control, I would be very upset. I
knew what everything was going to cost me before I stepped on the
plane. The prices were posted on this site. As for the
drinking/drugs, fighting and wardrobe choices, lets stop the
arguing by kindly asking those people who engaged in such
activity to refrain from doing so in 2002. Chances are though,
they wont listen. San Francisco put on an awesome show! I want to
thank everyone behind the scenes for all of their hard work.
Looking Forward to seeing all of my old and new friends in 2002.

We were looking forward to spending 5 days in San Francisco
with friends and family. When we arrived in San Fransisco we
believe we expected to much, and maybe that is why we were so
disappointed. We have never seen such embarassment. We don't even
know where to begin, San Fransisco tried to put on a good show,
however it was very unorganized. We agree with the previous
statements about the funtions being extemely overpriced and the
lack of security. To those of us who pay our registration and
federation dues to participate in the functions it is unfair that
many were admitted in for free by their San Francisco security
friends or were able to sneek in for free.It makes others wonder
why are we wasting our money when we can sneek in as well. As for
the actions displayed by some of the young adults, We are very
ashamed to acknowledge that we are a part of the Ramallah
communtiy: From the clothing of the women (cover-up), the
immature fighting (grow-up), to the drinking and drugs (going on
both behind closed doors and outdoors). The lack of clothing worn
by some of the attendees, was untasteful and disrespectful not
only to yourselves but also to your families and to those of us
who had to witness it. We hope for a better convention next year
with higher morals and more unity. Good Luck Chicago we hope you
learn from San Francisco's mistakes. God Bless You All.

As for all the negative comments around the San Francisco
Convention, I attened last years convention and there is no way
you can compare the Orlando convention with their afternoon rains
to the FABULOUS convention that the SF club put together.
Remember that California is one of the most expensive places to
live in the country and that is one of the reasons for the high
cost of putting on the great events that we did, not to mention
the ground transportation and the cost of renting the facilities.
The fact that there were a couple of confrintations does not make
this a terrible convention, it is the attitude that you being to
it that makes it good or bad. At least this year we put on a
FABULOUS play, played family fued, read poetry, had a discussion
group, and simply had an awesome time becuse it was soo well
planned by the SF club.

Our youth our future. A noble slogan for our convention.
However, I am afraid that it was nothing more than a slogan.
Where were the youth during the banquet? Out partying at Level Up
or fighting in the lobby. The speech/presentation by Miss Khalaf
was absolutely brilliant. It is precisely the sort of thing the
youth should have witnessed and be involved in rather than
sending them out to a club to party. The full audio and video of
Miss Khalaf's presentation should be posted on this site for
viewing by those who missed it. I am sure no one would mind if a
bit of the 'blah blah blah' of some of the speeches was cut down,
but everyone should have attended the banquet. It is the first
step in getting involved. We could have all enjoyed a hafla
together afterwards. Hopefully Chicago and the future host cities
of the convention will keep us all together and not plan other
events during banquet night.

I have to agree with Paul and the other individual from
Detroit, the cost for the different events was too high. The
hafli was nice but a bit unorganized. As for the people, well,
let's put it this way, for a 32year old, I had more fun partying
with the older croud. The younger croud was so distant from our
culture, could not connect with anyone. Hope next year's
convention is better than this one.

I would just like to say the convention was great and to
remind everyone that the cost of living in California is much
higher than ANY other state (other than NY). The prices seemed a
little high, but I'm sure to locals, they were reasonable. I'm
sure the profits the CA community made were much needed and will
be put to good use. Thanks for a good convention *overall*.

After reading all of the entries about this years
convention, I have some things to add. I agree with most of it in
that a lot of us were very immature and are changing the idea of
what a convention is supposed to be about. One young guy hit on
me by saying something like "You look cute in your
pajamas"... actually he was probably stoned at the time.
However, this is not what I had in mind when I went downstairs to
hang out with my cousins around 4:30 AM. Several other guys were
drunk and just would come up and say "you're beautiful"
then forget who I was the next day. I heard a lot of stories, but
also saw a lot of things happening first hand at the hotel and I
was surprised and embarrassed. What does the hotel and the rest
of San Francisco think of our Federation? Not only is it a matter
of image, but also of respect to the rest of us that want to have
a fun and a safe time for the 4 days we have with everyone once a
year. I can't say I had the worst time ever because I really did
have an awesome time with my cousins, old friends, and by meeting
a lot of new people I can look forward to seeing in the years to
come. So instead of dwelling on the stupid things people
did/said, I have chosen to remember the good time I had and I
hope all of you who attended can take some of that away with you
too.

Hanna S. I have to agree 100% on your comment. San Fran put
on a nice convention. And I give huge congratulations to the San
Francisco community. But Jacksonville's convention held in
Orlando 2000 was the best SO FAR. The community is very
hospitable, the Jacksonville 2000 Club President and his family
were the prime models of class, the Orlando city was a great
location for anyones touring pleasure, the clubs were great, the
DEBKAH was amazing, I still remember clearly how great those
young adults danced and brought a sense of pride for every
Ramallahite. Good work on your past accomplishments,
Jacksonville. Great job San Francisco, and further luck to
Chicago's convention next year. Bye!!!! :-)

Hello and Marhaba to all Arabs everywhere. I just wanted to
second what Mariam and the Detroit person said in the earlier
messages. I did not attend this years convention (due to work and
grad school unfortunately), however the so-called Arab girls
which attend these conventions are way out of control when it
comes to personality, clothing, and makeup. I saw it firsthand
and to me, they are not Arabs at all. I am sorry to have to say
this, but my experience tends to agree with Mariam. Regarding the
fights and stuff that the Detroit person mentioned, some of the
so-called Arab guys are not innocent either. You people make us
look stupid and uncivilized in front of Americans. Wake up and
look in the mirror. Stop getting drunk and making fights to
impress immature girls, this is stupid and it only makes us look
bad. Have some class and sophistication people. I still beleive
that it is fun to attend the conventions and I definitely will
next year in Chicago. Moderation is key when in front of your
community. Shukran everyone...

I agree with No Name Provided from Detroit, Michigan. I
have been to quite a few conventions in my time and this one was
the worst ever. First of all it looked like Yahoodis came up with
the prices for the activities. We should have got a free bottle
of vaseline because we all got screwed. You protest and what not
to make the Palestinian name proud, but incidents like this just
shoots it right in the foot. Grow up San Fran. Learn from your
mistakes and learn how other great cities put on a show. There
was one good thing about the convention. The ride home. God
bless...

I hope everyone made it home safe from the convention. Most
of us had a great time. It was wonderful to see so many old
friends and family. I still think the Jacksonville community but
on the best convention I have ever been to in Orlando last year.
I have to say as a young adult I couldn't believe the way some of
us acted. It seemed a bit childish. All of you out there should
remember that you are a part of the Federation and that your
actions reflect on yourself, your family, and your culture. So
remember the next time you are out on the town having a good time
to respect yourself. We are the future of the Federation and we
should act as future leaders not children that need constant
supervision. Hope to see everyone in Chicago next year.

Coming back from SF convention, I like to reiterrate the
issues people faced with its cost. Doing some simple math, the
boat cruise alone generated $42,000 in revenue ($70/person X 600
people). I cannot imagine the cost of renting the boat for 4
hours and serving only a cheese tray with some fruits cost the
club anywhere close to $42,000. With all the alcohol sold on the
boat that night, I will not be surprised if the boat owners
provided the boat basically free of charge! This is outrageous
and I think a statement from the SF club "justifying"
the high cost of this and other events such as the total waste of
money Level Up party ($50 cover charge to enter a bar - that's
what it was) is owed to the community. If the money generated and
profited by this are going to serve our needy families and
friends in Palestine, then by all means.

What a convention!!! SF 2001 should go down as the worst
convention ever. High prices (level up, boat), lack of security
(non registered were at level up and everywhere else), Fights on
Saturday night (99% of those involved were from San Francisco),
is what this convention will be remembered for. Not the Family
Feud, Play, and Arab Writers Fourum that should have been the
"High Lights". To the young of SF, GROW UP!! To the
Parents, CONTROL YOUR CHILDREN!! To the San Francisco comutity,
QUIT BLAMING THE POLICE AND OUTSIDERS FOR YOUR YOUNG ADULTS
ACTIONS!!! ie: hiting a bartender at level up! Thank for making
me ashamed to be from Ramallah.

Props to the Ramallah convention. It was real nice. Simple.
Saw some old friends, new friends. One thing that bothered me was
the way the some of the girls looked. A little too much show for
me. Trust me guys dont look at all the exterior that much.Arabs
need to open up their minds a little more to the real world,
instead of MAC makeup and the newest outfit. Children in Ramallah
are dying for us, lets put our minds into that. FREE PALESTINE.

It seems that Palestinian Americans are eager to embrace
their culture and history, yet don't want to participate in
shaping the present realities that are happening in Palestine
today. As a Palestinian American currently living and working in
Ramallah, I urge you all to become more connected to the people
in Palestine. To volunteer your time, money and efforts to reach
out to them in this time of crisis. To become aware of what is
happening on a daily basis to Palestinians in the West Bank and
Gaza and to make other people in your communities more aware.
There is a need for skilled people to come to work here, to help
to build an infrastructure and a future for their people and
their country. There is also a need for political mobilization on
the part of diaspora Palestinians and that can be as easy as
sending a letter every week to a politician or newspaper to voice
your opinion or to organize a demonstration, a lecture, etc. I
hope that this year's convention will open up this discussion,
and that more Palestinian Americans will become interested in
becoming active.
