Leroy and others who were unjustifiably furious about my posting, spare your comments to yourselves. Who are you to suggest "who to do what"? There was nothing wrong with the posting, the man being honest and sincere, and the cause being noble.

If you didn't like what you read, just leave it there. In a democracy and a modern world, you need to get accustomed to freedom of speech and expression, diversity in thinking, different opinions, ... and you need not expect everybody to think your way, behave your way, ...

Happy Easter to the Orthodox community. CHRIST is risen, HE is risen indeed.

"Jewish- controlled media" (JS) "Maybe you could reference actual authors, newspapers, books, from America to prove your point. Otherwise one gets the feeling you are a bit hysterical." (Jan Norman) Ok Norman here you go.... "There is definitely an anit- Arab bias in America, and I regret it." Peter Jennings Zionist Connection II p.273. "Efforts of Arabs to communicate with the west have been hampered by deep anti- Arab racism in Western culture." Rosemary and Herman Rurther in the book The Wrath oh Jonah 1989. "I've never seen a president I dont care who he is- stand up to them(the Israelis). It just boggles your mind. They always get what they want. The Israelis know whats going on all the time. If the American people understood what grip those people have on our government, they would rise up in arms. Our citizens dont have any idea whats going on." Andrew Hurley in his book One Nation Under Israel 1999. " "One Million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail." Rabbi Ya Perin in his eulogy at the funeral of mass murderder Dr. Baruch Goldstien. This was printed in the New York Times 02/28/94. Leslie Stahl: "We have heard that a half million children have died (as a result of sanctions against Iraq). I mean, that is more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?" Madeleine Albright: "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price, we think the price is worth it." -- A CBS Sixty Minutes interview between Leslie Stahl and U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, on 12 May 1996. This is what JS meant by the influence of Jewish Media in the US.

J.S. You sound like a very, well, passionate guy--for your beliefs. However, IF you are so certain that we have missed an education related to your beliefs maybe you could reference actual authors, newspapers, books FROM America to prove your point. Otherwise, one gets the feeling you are a bit hysterical. "NO DOUBT", historians are off on recording history. But, when you consider the "melting pot", "tossed salad" or millions of different American ethnic backgrounds there are-- someone is bound to cry out about something wrong with the history books. We are God created, but man destroyed in the name of religion, country and war bar natural disaster. Probably it is easy to "blame the jew" but given who you are, an educated man,of Middle Eastern and American heritage--I am more interested in the facts and your solutions to those facts. Otherwise, you come across as whining! To Mike, "American Patriot": I got alot out of your last message. Thanks, Peace Y'all, Jan

JS and Susan, I've been reading the comments posted here in the guestbook. I'm sure you already know this, but there are many more people who agree with you 100%. I just wish you had an e-mail address posted so that the people agreeing with you can just e-mail you and thank you for making sense. All you others, you have some valid points, but sometimes your patriotism to America seems to go in vain of the reasons your ancestors brought came here. I know they came here to build themselves better lives with intention of returning to Palestine. But I don't think they had in mind for their great-grand children to say "I will die for America, but I will not die for Palestine!!"

For those who are saying that some comments in the guestbook are embarrassing the Ramallah family infront of visitors: This guestbook turned into a hang out for arguements since a year ago, which is why posted comments in this guestbook have been screened since.About a year ago, a group of supposedly Die-Hard Ramallah-Americans turned a beautiful aspect of Palestinian-Arab culture into a Christian vs. Muslim issue (or yet a Ramallah Christian vs. Muslim issue), and in turn that is why this guestbook gets screened, because of some "Die-Hard Ramallah-American" people who are really embarrassing their own family by saying things that make themselves look bad. So anyhow, JS and Susan and others like you, thanks for making sense. For all the others, I don't ever recall in reading JS's comments that he/she is against the American Culture. If you all would take the time to read and think about what a person is saying, you wouldn't come back with arguements for the sake of just argueing. Noone said anything bad about your precious America, JS is just saying that Palestine is more precious than America. THINK about it.

JS- I agree with you 110%!!! Here is another fact, the USA gives Israel over $17 million a day!! That is about 6.3 billion a year. Total USA foreign aid to the whole world(6 billion people) is about $18 billion, so, the one thousandth (1/1000) of the world population living in Israel gets one third of USA aid.

To all of the illiterate people who responded to a message that I had posted recently, you really need to read some books on history. Iraq is NOT an enemy of America, it is an Arab country (like Palestine) that wants to progress both technologically and militarily. It never insulted or threatened America as the Jewish-controlled media in this country portrays it. Backwards Iran did. Iraq was attacked by America because America OBEYS orders from Israel, not because Iraq threatened our national interests as some have said. Iraq was attacked because it presented a VERY REAL military threat to pro- Western puppet Arab regimes as well as the head of the snake in the Middle East, Israel. The war was not at all fought over so called "principles". If we all want to look at principles, we should not be aiding Israel with billions of dollars a year in taxpayers money to be used for weapons that kill Arabs. These are REAL principles!!! America and the West will not suffer without Kuwaiti oil, Alaska itself can solve that problem. These are well-known facts shared by many. I am not putting down or insulting the US as some have said, rather I would like to stress the need for education to the people here in this country who say things that they know absolutely nothing about. Again, America is a great country filled with many opportunities and success stories, however what we seem to lack alot of is factual HISTORICAL EDUCATION, especially when it comes to the Arab World. Please think about what was said here before putting down Arab countries. This is not only sickening, but also very wrong......

JS---seeing as though you're accusing Nuha of being a sell out to "her people" by her and her family living here..then what's your excuse of you and your family living in DC? Why dont you just stop talking all this mess about Iraq and stop being so judgemental of everyone around you. You are no better than anyone here!! We are all tired of reading the stuff and being embarressed to visitors of this site. Since you claim to be so Arab and disapprove of Arab-American Young adults and their behavior (MTV etc..)then what do you do at a convention? We're all Arab-Americans having a good time, meeting our family from around the world, learning about our culture, as well as utilizing the American freedom we've grown acustom to...We are all proud of our Arab HERITAGE, but reality is your CULTURE is all American Baby..there is a difference! Next time please THINK before you type and have some RESPECT for your Ramallah family..

JS: I see your at it again, with your absolutly assinine comments. Long live Iraq? How can you support a dictator like Hussien? What about what he did to the Kuwaitis? Arnt they arab also? Look, If you have a problem with America, and us arabs that happen to be proud of where we live, then i suggest you disown all of your "american" assets, and start living like a refugee like your fellow iraqi brethern. Your an absolute disgrace to call yourself an american...Americans are people who come from different cultures and differnt places thoughout the world, thats what makes this country great. What brings this country down is F.O.B's (fresh off the boat) that reap the riches and advantages of america, but then turn around and dont defend it!

A Letter To Palestine Amany Hajyassin Dear Palestine: I am a part of you. I live upon you. I give up nine years of my life fighting for you. I am one of your survivors. Those who have passed, died for what they believed was true. And fighting for you, and to die for you, was what they believed was right. I am writing to you, because ever since the Intifada, I had left you, to live in America. I feel such guilt. There were so many problems going on, I couldn't take it anymore. I am sorry! I cant stop thinking of your living. I wonder everyday. How the people are. I worry. I worry about the children more. I witnessed so much deaths of little children. I never forgot that day. Seeing little children, wanting to follow in the Palestinian Soldiers footsteps, made me proud of those little children. Extending their small little arms, preparing to throw a stone. I remember seeing one small child. Hiding in the corner. It was a little boy. I had walked towards him. I asked, "Why you crying my dear child?" Crying in such pain, the little boy answered, "They came in my house, hit me very hard, took my mother, and shot her. They shot her once in the back, and twice in the head. I will never forgive them, ever. They will never be able to replace what they have stolen from me" I couldn't believe what this little boy was telling me. I get flashbacks everyday. Never forgetting the words that came out of this little boy. I think about him everyday. How's he living? Is he still alive? Its hard Palestine. I was watching the news the other day. It brought tears to my eyes. Seeing people running for their lives. Its sad to see such a thing. The Israelis holding their guns, and shooting with no hesitation. Shooting at random. Shooting the people as if they were animals not obeying the rules. Young teenage boys, with a hata wrapped over their face, throwing rocks and shouting, "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar." Firebombs being thrown at houses, and houses coming down as if it was a building UN-useful to anyone. Living the Palestinians as refugees. I remember one little boy by the name of Mahmoud, who was 10 years old, telling me, "I like what I like and I hate what I hate. I like playing on a musical instrument, but I don't like making music with a gun. I love the smell of a rose, and I hate the smell of tear gas." He also mentioned, "My color is white, black, yellow....it does not matter. The color of our skin my differ but red is the color of blood that flows in all of us." Mahmoud was aware of what was going on, and so were other children. They saw more things with their own two eyes in one day, that I ever saw since I have lived in America. I am proud to be a Palestinian. I am even more proud that I have fought for you, Palestine. I will never forget those nine years. Those nine years of my life have been so memorable. Though, they are not good memories, their memories that will live a life time. I will share it with family, friends and I will be more than happy to share them with my children, as they grow up. I hope people understand your conditions, and I hope they understand the sufferings. Someday Palestine, I will come back, and finish what was started, and never ended." I get a kick out of reading everyone's comments. Were all living in America and share the same ethinic backgrounds. We should be PROUD of who we are. Nuha-I totally disagree with your comment, "If you want to call yourself an Arab, then you'll have to move to the Middle East" People like you are a disgrace to the arab culture.Maybe that was a little harsh, but it's true. If someone asks me what I am of course i'm gonna say ARAB, does that mean I have to move back to Palestine...I think NOT. I was born and raised here and I love America but I'm also proud to be an Arab. I'm not trying to be mean here, but come on now...Get Real. Well anyways..hope everyone has a great Easter!

Hello All; I had just a few questions about the convention. I was wondering when we may expect to get pre-registration information with a schedule of events? We did receive the list of events; but, it doesn't tell the days things are scheduled. It does give prices, although when we had called and gotten information from Disney World earlier they gave us the price of $162.00 for the 4-day pass which is the same price listed, except they include Pleasure Island. Will there be any discounts given on individual tickets? I was also wondering if we are going to be able to pay by credit card when we register this year? If anyone can answer these questions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

It seems everyone has a comment or two on this Arab-American subject. This seems like a great subject to discuss at the Young Adult Talk Show at the Convention in Orlando. It will be on Friday, July 7 in the lobby of the Hilton Resort. The second Mail Out will going out at the end of the month and will include registration forms. Lizz, you did a great job on the convention logo. The Convention Committee has received positive comments from all over the place. A Job well done. Hello Guestbook I would like to change the subject. First of all my sister is Xterragirl and I am very proud of her work and also jealous. But it's Ok cuz I am a baseball player who's been out of shape since 96. After the Sosa, Big Mac record setting season I decided to get myself back in shape because I loved the game and want to play. A year ago I weighed 227...27 pounds being cases and cases of beer, but I have been working out hard and now I weigh 197 and looking and feeling pretty fit, but still a long way to go. I am hoping to find some sort of connection that will allow me to tryout professionally somewhere come December and if not then I will tryout for college ball my last two years. But if I get a "Chance" I will not fail so I will keep you all posted and I promise one day you all will look in the paper and see that I will be leading the Majors in batting, just like the great Ted Williams and Tony Gwynn. Anyways...wish me luck. And if I am boring you all and you dont care.....WHY ARE YOU READING THIS?

Well...I think that this is getting out of hand. This is a guestbook and if you want to attack another person for their opinion please do it in an email...when I read these comments that are degrading, I only think bad of my fellow Arab-Americans. For visitors of this site, it doesn't look good either. Most of us came from the five brothers of Ramallah, and I do think they would be rolling over in their graves seeing such hostility between their people. Before I finish I would like to say that I am proud of my heritage as an Arab...and yes I try to play the tubla, learn the language, learn the culture, learn anything that possibily relates to being an Arab...BUT I'm also proud of the land that I live.

A quote from a previous entry from J.S. "long live Iraq" Are you friggin serious? If you love your beloved Iraq so much, why dont you get your poor excuse of an merican citizen over there! and stay! We lost some good soliders over there in iraq, fighting for their country. Whether or not we should have been over there in the first place is another issue. Nevertheless, when we deploy our armed forces, Americans should stand by them 100 percent. "long live iraq"...that just disgusts me!

There is a well-known saying said by many guerilla leaders such as Fidel Castro, George Habash, and Mao Tse Dong. The saying says "Knowledge and education are far better weapons on the battlefield than guns and bullets". The Arab people need to live by this saying if they choose to fight for the Arab cause. This saying is also analogous to the Arabs living in this country as a motivator to succeed and prosper and at the same time, conquer! Long live Palestine and Iraq!!!

The deal that Arafat is planning to make will not solve the Palestinian problem especially the Refugee situation. It will not defend Palestinian rights as settlements are expanding at an alarming rate under Barak. Hebron has been virtually taken over and all around Ramallah are settlements. We as Palestinians and especially from Ramallah should let our voices be heard. The only way to acheive justice is through the armed struggle. We don't need another South Africa. It is important for our people in the USA to make their voices heard. Thousands of Palestinians and Lebanes rot in jail. Homes are still be detroyed. Our holy Jerusalem is be turned into a Jewish city. People wake up and smell the coffee!. The Oslo Accords are nothing but Occuption. An independ state is supposed to independent not demilaltarized. Every inch of our land is not for sale and and every Palestinian in the World must be able to return to their homes. This the simple truth.

Hello. I commented last night and this morning I had a few moments to read all of the comments that my family wrote, I'd like to say a few things. 1) NICK you are so hilarious! 2) MIKE, you and NICK are both rednecks, but you are my first cousins, and I love you anyway. 3) Does MTV still exist? I stopped watching it after they stopped playing music videos. 4) To Jamil, my beloved brother, you aren't as sexy as you think you are. 5) Sometimes being an Arab in America hinders my life. I would never deny my culture, but one of these days I am going to have to do something drastic because I want to stop being JUST a ARABIC DAUGHTER and become an INDEPENDENT ARAB-AMERICAN RESPONSIBLE ADULT like my heart desires. You cannot try to raise an Arab-American like an ARAB ONLY. The plan might work for you as a parent, but the child won't be happy. You have to raise them right, instill their values, morals, ethics, and let them be on their way to make the right decisions. The Arab culture will always be in our hearts, but it is impossible to bring up a perfect lil' arabic child in America. If you try too hard, the child will resent you one day. I know this first-hand. And to those of you that cry because I love living in America, go back "home".

I know this topic is getting old but at least its better than nonsense comments. J. S.- thank you for clearing up what you meant. I now have a much clearer understanding of what you are getting at. However, I think this issue has traveled as far as it has b/c the issue you are addressing does not correspond with the issue myself and others are addressing. I think Mike cleared that up nicely- we are in no way shape or form trying to deny or degrade our heritage, nor are we in favor of how Arabs are treated by America. If America isn't respecting, ME - as Susan stated, than so be it- that doesn't change how I feel about my birth place, after all women still aren't treated equally here- should I raise hell about that too?( don't worry im not a femminist). And that is my opinion- you may have yours and I respect that. How we feel about our birthplace has nothing to do with how much we know about our past. Although I do not know everything about Arab/Israeli issues, I would not say I'm illiterate in regard to the situation. J. S. I sense that you feel that if we did know enough about the Arab situation, we would not feel the way we do about America. My parents and I may not have experienced the life over there, but they have made sure I have kept up with the situation and urged me to read books to further my knowledge in that area. Point being, we have our opinions, you have yours.

I've been watching this whole debate from afar for a while now, and I just feel the need to say a few things. I think everyone has made many good points, whether I agree with some of them or not. We all come from different generations and have shaped ourselves with different beliefs, so therefore it is inevitable that we all have different views on this. This is a place where we should all be able to voice our opinions and be heard. Of course not everyone is going to agree with what you have to say, but rather than criticize others' opinions, why not just simply state your own? There is no need to bash what someone else said in the process. Maybe if some presented there views in a more mature manner, others would be more liable to listen and actually absorb what some of you had to say. But your opinions aren't going to be heard by anyone nor understood by them when you speak negatively of what others have to say. An opinion isn't something that can be labeled as right or wrong- it is something you simply agree or disgaree with. Disagreeing does not encompass putting someone or their beliefs down. It seems that some of you feel just because not everyone has the same feelings towards America, we can't all appreciate, love, and honor our heritage. I couldn't disagree more. No matter what issues we all may disagree on, I personally believe very strongly that one thing the majority of us AGREE on is that we are proud of our Arab heritage. And if one happens to disagree with you on something, that isn't synonymous to them denouncing their pride of being Arabic! And on a final note- there is something that I just can't let go unsaid. JS- I previously stated that we can disagree with each other without putting each other down. But if that is the way you choose to let yourself be heard, please remember that when speaking of eloquence, EXPERIENCE is not spelled EXPERIANCE. Thank you.

Hello. I have checked up on this site regularly for updates and have always found arguments, "apologies" or re-statements from people who try to change what they said. How about we use this valuable site for what its for, and not to let out the emotions that we have through a keyboard instead of doing it in "real life". Thanks.

Mr. J.S. It seems as though you have a problem. Why do you have to label people when you do not really know them? WHY DO SOME PEOPLE SEEM TO THINK THAT IF YOU ARE ARAB, YOU CANNOT BE A PROUD AMERICAN AT THE SAME TIME? I love my arab heritage as much as anyone, and I hate yahood and what they have done to our ancestors, but that does not limit me to supporting only arab/arabic things. FOR EXAMPLE: If I were to goto another country for a visit, and a native asked me what am I and where am I from? My response would be, "Im an American, specifically from the south, and proud of it". My supporters and I are in no way denying our heritage, we just believe that our birth country, THE GREAT US OF A, is one of the greatest places in the world. If you dont seem to like it, well then i suggest you pack your bags and get the heck out! Much obliged for yalls time The American Patriot

I like to reflect a moment on the meaning of palestinian identity, history, culture separate from the arab world and in contrast to my birth country, the USA. This question has grown in my mind with the passing of my parents who were my bridge to the middle east. Much discussion these weeks has revolved around the issue of nationalism- the USA versus' the arabs/palestinians and where do you stand? This is an all too common historical and philosophical trap which weakens us a "community(a shared historical and cultural heritage) ". The sense of community and identity is really all that matters and is what many outstanding Palestinian American-arabs are trying to preserve with great difficulty. Why is it so hard to preserve? Because the definition seems nebulous and those with institutional history of the palestine that was are quickly dying off. My parents did a dam good job transmitting this 'history' to us. Its more than warrat dawali and zaatar, more than a language or a piece of land in Ramallah, or calling yourself an American-arab vs Arab-american vs a Palestinian arab who lives in America. What is it then? The format of Guestbook does not allow for an answer to this question with justice because one must be brief and I am already way to long. I will submit the answer can be as simple as a song my father used to sing to us by Farid El Attrache about the passing of his beloved sister Esmahan "Aushente" or translated- We miss your absence. If you have not thought about this question before this is probably as good a starting point as any. Best Regards to All

Occasionally, I browse through the guestbook just to see what my fellow arabs are talking about and frankly im disappointed. Im tired of all the bickering and squabbling that goes on here. This is exactly the reason why our people, meaning all arabs, have remained seperate on so many issues. could you imagine if we combined our resources? no one could hold us back! now that I got that off my chest let me just say WASSUUUUPP!!! to all my cousins in CHI-TOWN, and to the houston girls, you know who you are ;) and finally, just to let everyone know, Chicago will be well represented in Orlando this year........so now you know the convention will be jammin!!!! Please think about what I said carefully instead of being in a hurry to crtiticize my comments. My comments were not posted to offend anyone, however I feel offended slightly from I read. I think what offends me the most is that the people who are writing things don't know much when it comes to Arab affairs. Its pretty obvious to me. There are some who talk with slang and without any eloquence so its really hard I think for them to have any credibility when it comes to Arab issues. By the way, the MTV people that I am refering to are the ones (based on prior experiance) who don't care at all about their past and who care more about their way of life here. They are also the ones that are the most vocal, yet the most illiterate when it comes to Arab issues. We should absorb only the good things that America has to offer, not everything. Hopefully, you understand what I am saying here.....

First off, J.S. nobody is putting down their culture. Do you see anywhere in this guestbook where people are making fun of arabs? I have 20/20 vision and I can't see that anywhere. Also, quit making fun of MTV cause we all know that you watch it all the time and we know Real World is your favorite show. Okay, I have tried to just be polite and listen to others opinions but J.S. from Washington D.C., you have upset me. Where in the world did you read anyone "putting down their own culture?" Apparently I am one of the illiterate people you mention because all I have seen are people, such as Mike, who respect and are proud of their Palestinian heritage. You get upset because he is also proud of being American. Well, guess what, many of us feel the same way. I am an Arab-American. Not just one, but both. I love the opportunities I have in the US AND I love my Palestinian heritage. What saddens me is people such as yourself who cannot understand this. We are not living the "MTV way." I sincerely resent that comment. Just because we are young does not mean that we are not aware and do not care about Palestine. The kind of environment I have been raised in has been one that has taught me to take the best from the Palestinian culture as well as the American culture. Also, no one has mentioned Palestine as a "third world country." In fact, I do believe you were the first. I am very aware of the fact that the US does not give Palestine the respect it deserves and try my best to help educate people who have misconceptions about the Arab culture. The fact that I do not agree with the US on certain issues regarding the Arab community does not mean that I should denounce my birthplace and hate the country. You will not find one person that completely agrees with every stance their government takes. I am allowed to have a different opinion about the government without the fear of persecution -- that's one of the things I happen to like about the US. It has also given you that right. You live in the US and reap the benefits. If you feel so strongly about putting your culture above any others and that the US has made Palestine a "third world country," why don't you stop complaing and try to help change the opinion the government has about Palestine. Something about the US must be appealing to you otherwise your disgust would have made you leave a long time ago.

J. S.- Could you please explain to the rest of us what the "MTV WAY" is ... and further more- what MTV has to do with anything involving how proud some of us are of OUR homeland... not our heritage. The two are profusely different and should not be confused in your mind nor mine. I don't watch MTV so your analogy there kinda threw me off...if you could explain it's meaning- that would be great- thanks.

I would like to say hello to all Arab. I am new to the guestbook and I would like to let you all know that I have read all of your comments, opinions, threats, or whatever you have had to say. I must say that yall are pretty interesting :) I myself am 1/2 Jordanian and 1/2 Palestinian. But I AM an Arab, with great pride, in my heritage and also in the country in which I live. I hope that one day we will all be able to get along, like Arab should. It seems to me that it is in our blood to hate eachother and to be envious of what our neighbor has. But as young adults, we have the power to change that, and it's not too late. Call me a dreamer, but we all have to start somewhere. Hope to hear from yall. Take care and Love you all!!

After reading the last few messages, I am very saddened and upset to see so many Arabs raised in this country putting down their own culture. We should be putting our culture above any other. There are also some who really are illiterate when it comes to the Arab cause and would prefer instead to ignore it and live "the MTV way". This wrong and it comes from what kind of environment you were raised in. All I am saying is that we should respect our culture and history and stop talking about Palestine as a "third world country". Who made us into a third world country? America, England, and Israel!!!

Hello all, I was born and raised in Ramallah, only to be brought to the wonderful country of America at the tender age of 19. I have raised 4 children in America as well. Sure America funds the arms for the Israelis, sure Arabs carry a negative connotation in America. But have we ever thought as to WHY these stereotypes exist? Maybe if our people would pay America a little respect and stop the "Arab Way or no way" mentality, we would be treated a little more equal. We are all very blessed to be here. I am by no means saying we need to conform to the total Americanized life style, however other minorities in America seem to be getting along just fine and seem to be thrilled just to be here. We all hope and pray for peace in the Mideast, however I don't see how that is relevant to being proud of a nation which offers us so much and has carried us such a long way.

America is still the best country in the world. Whats great about it is all the different cultures and the ability we have to discuss what is on our mind. Yes, sometimes American politics do not favor arabs, and that is unfortunante. But, that will not deter my undying devotion to my great country. The red, the white and the blue forever. Im not saying that one should not be proud of his native country, Im just sayin that the USA has no respect for Palestine. All of the weapons that are used by Isreal to attack the people of Palestine are funded by the USA. Although I have to say that the peace process has come along way, but how can the US claim to want peace between the two country's and still supply Israel with weapons to destroy Palestine.

Hello everyone! I am Jamil Isam Farhat.....son of Isam Jamil Farhat and grandson of Jamil Abdullah Farhat. I agree with Deena, cousin Mike John Mousa, cousin Nicholas Edward Mousa and the others who are proud to be here. I was born and raised in this great country, but have spend my entire 21 years of my life learning the arabic culture. I would not consider myself a proud Arab. I am a proud ArabAmerican. Better yet....Palestinian American. Has anyone ever noticed that we are not alone in this country. There are Asian, Oriental, AfricanAmerican, Hispanic, Australian, European, Russian and Indian people living here. There are millons of people from every continent living in the USA. Can you name another country in which ALL of these people live in? NO!! I wonder why everyone chooses to come here then. Maybe it's because they're not forced to wear Red, White and Blue or to sing the National Anthem or eat Hamburgers and Hotdogs. Some people choose to and some people not. Everyone has FREEDOM. They are still allowed to follow there religion, dress according to culture, eat thier foods and so on. And they are living here in America. IF you guys have a problem with this country then you should take your Nike shoes off, throw away your Levi's jeans, and don't even speak this language. You shouldn't even be on-line typing English. I am proud of both my American and Palestinian backgrounds. I am Very thankful this country gave my family the opportunity to move here and become succesfull and FREE. If anyone has a problem with this country...GET OUT OF IT!!! Our countries are seperated by water.....not a WALL!!

I agree with Deena's comment 100%! Sharaka baby, your absolutely right! I am so very proud to be Palestinian! I don't hide it at all. I went back home last spring to visit Ramallah and when I came back, I was 150% more proud! It is great to be an arab...But it is also great to be proud of the country you are living in too! I'm an Arab-American! Because I claim to be American as well..does that make some of ya'll angry? Well Yes! It seems so because Mike simply said the same thing and thousands of people gasped in disgust! The mentality of these "proud arabs" is weak! One should realize that if they weren't living in this great country, America, then exactly where would you be? Physically and mentally. Think about it. All others with the so called Die-Hard mind setting (quoated by Deena) need to go live in a 3rd world country if your not happy in America. I wasn't going to intervene in this USA vs. Palestine discussion but I just had to express how much I agree with Grace. I too, do not understand why so many people commented to Mike's remarks with such sorrow. He is simply proud of his native country just as those of you born in Palestine are proud of your native land. Why shouldn't Mike or anyone else be proud of the country which allowed all of our family to advance in life? America IS great and we all SHOULD be proud. Being proud of such a country has absolutely NOTHING to do with preserving your heritage. I personally find it offensive to see so many Arabs under the impression that living any other way than the "die hard" Arab life as being sad and shameful. No one made our family come to the US. They did so willingly b/c they were able to foresee a better life. If our people continue to condemn America for being a prosperous country (God Forbid) or even (eeks!) enabling immigrants to come in with an empty pocket and then eventually live a fulfilled life, as some were in this book, than don't ever expect all the Arab stereotypes that exist in America to end.

Regarding the heated discussion about the USA and Ramallah (yes, I need to put in my two cents) - let us all not forget where most of these entries are coming from: USA. Not to say that one is better than the other - that's what each individual person has to decide from themselves. I only hope that people can take the BEST from BOTH cultures in order to be stronger as a whole. Let's not forget that most of us are Arab-Americans.

I was just reading some of the comments on this website and was surprised and shocked to see that so many American Arabs are so racist! Why is it that some of you feel that America is not your country? If you were born here, you are American, with Arab heritage. I am in Education, where we teach students to be accepting of other cultures and customs. Why is it that Arabs feel they are the best? We should embrace all people and cultures. I am proud to say that I married a wonderful man that is NOT Arabic and I couldn't be happier. We celebrate Arab, Malteese and Irish customs in our household. If you don't believe America is your country, then you shouldn't work and live here.

The great thing about the United States is we CAN discuss our views, opinions, comments without being jailed, maimed etc. If you want everyone to think like you and agree like you then tell me what Freedom is that?Anyone can give you the rhetoric. I dig the folks in action. Thanks to those of you in the military who are fighting for our country. Thanks for protecting the US of A. Thats a hard job fighting for us and protecting us and you all don't get enough respect for it. We can say we are our heritage. But, we live in the US and one day our children born here in the US will say the US is part of their heritage as well. On a grand scheme, the big picture, we are all God's children and we are all a part of the human race and we have invisible boundaries that separate our countries. This is God's world. HE created it. If man gets hung up on this is mine and that is yours then you lose perspective on what is valuable! Peace. Jan

I find the responses to Mr. Mousa's comments very intriguing and sad. In many ways I agree with him. I feel these responses to him are gutteral and not thought out well. My heritage is palestinian(as strong as it comes) and my parents, now deceased, enriched our lives with the best of arabic culture. On the other hand, my birth country is the United States. It is the source of my education, employment, and philophosy about life. I am politically active for the US and arabic interests and a member of the united states military. One must separate the country and heritage of america from the politicians(historical or present) who make political decisions one may or may not like. The US is the greatest successful political experiment in the history of humankind. I am grateful that my parents had the foresight to come to this country when they did. I most certainly would not have enjoyed the good fortune I now have if I had been born in palestine and I thank my parents every day for their astute move. My life is on the line everyday for the US and I would have it no other way. The US is my first priority. I have been to the arab world and witnessed firsthand what I might have grown into and the corruptness that still exists. Wake up and get your priorities straight.

I apoligize if i have offended anyone with my comments. I have read all of you alls responses to my comments, and have noted them. I understand fully about upholding and keeping our palestinians culture alive, and I do keep up with what is going on over there. Though i havent made a trip over to visit there, I think it would be interesting and very educational. Believe me, I do not deny my heritage, I just love the country I was born in, and the one which I live in. thank you

Yes, I can speak arabic. My parents do speak arabic in our home, I know a great deal about the palestinian culture, customs, etc. Most of the people I do associate with are my cousins, they are like my brothers. I am very involved with other arab peoples. But I do have many non arab associates, and I agree with many of their views. Lets just end this here. I am an American, with a Palestinian heritage, that I will never deny. I think this discussion is great and i enjoy hearing other opinions. But please some of you, do not ever talk about my family, my cousins, or my beliefs again. Im just discussing my thoughts on certain subjects. Is it wrong to have pride in the country in which I live? Why is being a patriotic american so wrong? Please dont respond to this, Im not asking for any answers from you all. Im just here, posting a few comments that is all.

Mike you make me want to cry,I fear that are future generations will think like you. How involved are your parents and cousins and family in your Arab community???? Do your parents speak Arabic to you in the home, can you also speak Arabic? Is our culture at all part of your life, like food, music, poets, anything?? Does your social life invole arabs, like gooing out with arab friends or cousins??? If not then I undertsand why you think this way, it is due to the lack of education that your parents did not provide for you. And if that is the case, then I am sorry. I am sorry because you are missing out on the best culture ever, why cant you take the good from both cultures and instill them into your life. I want you to think about what are people are fighting for in our counrty, and half of those people are children, probaly more brave than you and I. They have nothing compared to what we have here in the states, and at times I feel a bit of guilt because I am living here in a safe country, and they are in an on going war.

This spirited conversation is great. Basically this is all I was saying. Just giving my opinion, not downing others views. I am an American first. I was born in the USA. I have a great love for my heritage. I will never deny where my blood comes from. It is unfortunante the the United States does not give, or hasnt given in the past, Palestine the respect it deserves. That aside, I believe that If you live in a certain country, and were born there. Then you have an obligation as a citizen of that country, mine being the US of A, to suport it in any way that you can. To put it in rough, basic terms..If the draft were brought back, would I be willing to die for the United States? YES Would I be willing to die for palestine....probably not.

MIKE, DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT OPINIONS OR MUST I TELL YOU? ALSO, COULD IT BE YOU ARE READING MY MESSAGE WRONG, OR DO YOU HAVE ISSUES? I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT PEOPLE MUST BE ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS ON THEIR OWN. THAT IS WHY MY MESSAGE CLEARLY STATES " i want to support all arab americans (who feel that they need) to bring more of their heritage into their lives. " I MADE NO CLAIMS AND I DID NOT TRY TO FORCE MY BELIEFS OR IDEALS ON ANYONE. YOU CAN HAVE YOUR RED, WHITE AND BLUE FOREVER. THAT IS YOUR DECISION. I GUESS IT KEEPS YOU SAFE AT NIGHT, BUT I PERSONALLY TAKE CARE OF MYSELF. LIKE MOST NORMAL PEOPLE I WANT TO MAKE MY LIFE REVOLVE AROUND MY FAMILY AND OUR BELIEFS. THAT WILL INCLUDE, TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY, A STRONG ARAB UPBRINGING. I DON'T FEEL THAT I NEED ANYTHING AS SYMBOLIC AS A FLAG TO GUIDE THE DIRECTION OF MY LIFE. AND ANYONE WHO DOES HAS BEEN MISGUIDED. THAT BEING SAID, IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER COMMENTS OR DISPUTES, FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME.

Mike, maybe when your america decides to treat your people and your country as in Palestine, with a bit of respect, then I might claim it as my country. America just recently started to regonize the state of Palestine(they dont even think were a country yet), its sad that your American History book does not teach you this. Its not that I dont like this country, its just that I like Palestine a heck of alot better. So in other words, PLO forever!!!!!

This is in response to the entry about young arabs and their heritage. I am proud of my heritage and never hide it. There are some items that i would like to discuss. I am an AMERICAN who is from arab decent. Just like an american from italian decent, or irish decent etc. America is my country, and always will be. I have noticed some young arabs, most of whom were born here in the U S of A, claiming that american is not thier country! If you dont like it, get the heck out... The Red, White and Blue forever.

Hello and marhaba to all the Arab people living in America! Be proud of where you are from and don't ever forget or be embarrased of your roots and heritage! Be proud and defend your background. Educate other people on your background. I have noticed a disturbing trend with young Arabs in this country and it is sickening. Some of us want to be something that we fortunately are not. Long live the courageous people in Palestine and Iraq as well as all other Arabs who fight daily for the Arab cause!
