AT&T SUPPORTS KILLING OF PALESTINIANS
October 27, 2000
The Israeli occupying forces announced today that AT&T, the American telecommunications giant, will host its website.
The decision follows an attack by computer hackers which knocked down the IDF website. A statement issued by the Israeli military October 26 said "In order to secure the availability and accessibility of the [IDF] site at all times, the professional web masters in charge of the IDF site turned to several other companies, from which AT&T was chosen as an additional provider together with Netvision [an Israeli company]." (Statement on http://www.idf.il) This was also reported in The Jerusalem Post.
At this time, the IDF website is being used to propagate justifications for the mass killings and repression of Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories. For the past month, Israeli occupation forces attacks have killed more than 130 Palestinians including 30 children, and injured thousands. Israeli forces are surrounding most Palestinian cities, causing shortages of food and denying people freedom of movement, even to seek medical treatment.
These actions continue despite almost universal condemnation by the international community, and the United Nations Security Council, Amnesty International and many other human rights organizations.
HANTHALA PALESTINE deplores AT&T's association with the repression and massive human rights violations caused by the Israeli occupying forces. Hanthala Palestine deplores AT&T's position that supports continued grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention by serving the Israeli occupying forces.
In the meantime numerous AT&T customers have switched residential long distance and international telephone services to one of its competitors due to AT&T's association with the illegal Israeli occupation of the Palestinian lands and the inherent human rights violations it causes.
HANTHALA PALESTINE suggests that persons who feel that they cannot in good conscience continue to do business with a company that steps in to assist such a massive human rights abuser as the Israeli military may decide to take their long distance telephone business elsewhere. AT&T is the largest provider of long distance telephone service, and makes huge profits from international calls to the Arab World.
